I have seen the voltage regulators stick on and drain a battery after a couple of days, even though it charges good when running.

I can't remember right off, but can you unplug the regulator part of the alternator? If so, Leave the main cable bolted up and unplug it if it's gonna sit for a few days, then plug it up before starting it just to rule out the alternator if it is still dead. If it starts, then the regulator is sticking on causing the drainage that is killing that battery. It's free and worth a shot.

A better BAND-AID for this problem, to keep from losing the clock/radio settings, would be a battery maintainer. One of the best ones being from the Deltran Corporation. It is called the Battery Tender. You can have it maintaining a battery 24 hours a day without it ever overcharging. I have two of them: A Battery Tender Plus and a Battery Tender Waterproof. They work great! Good luck with the situation.

Default battery life

I just replace my factory battery in my 2004 1500 hemi. South Florida is very hard on batteries here, glad to get 6 years.
