RE: Newb. with a 2004 RAM . Hitch question
Did you buy the truck new? I only ask because I was looking at an 04 QC 2500 4x4 that someone apparently removed the hitch from. I asked the dealer why the hitch was gone and he said he didnt know. I crawled under the truck and you could see the outline where the original hitch had been.
Definitely go with OEM equipment.
I pull a 30ft camper with my 04, my truck is an 04 QC 1500 Hemi w/3.92 Anti-Spin. I think it is pretty cool that the PCM actually downshifts the vehicle and engine brakes on downhill runs when you let off the gas.

If you bought new I would go to the dealer and have them give me what I paid for or call dodge on the 800 number.
If you bought used hit up your saleman or the sales manager for your hitch. Make a big stink for the squeeky wheel gets the greese. They might settle at cost since vehiclea are sold as is when they are used.

well why does it have the wiring, tranny cooler and the main "hitch" then? all its missing is the 2" receiver, thats it.

I'm not trying to be a smart-alec, but you may not have a tranny cooler - it is an easy mistake to think you do in these Dodges. The radiator to the left as you look at the truck is the radiator, the little one below and in front is not a tranny cooler but a power steering cooler (follow the hoses). I thought it was a tranny cooler when I bought mine, but my dad corrected me.

Mine came "tow ready" (no additional cost) without the tow package. I have the small pwr steering cooler and the tranny cooler above the pwr steering cooler. It's about 1/2 the size of the radiator. Dealer said they often do this near the end of the model year and use the factory receivers on the next model year. Paid $150 (less than tow package option) for the MOPAR receiver and plug-in 7pin harness.

Well, I have a few intresting things for yall....
I got mine used. It has some wiring (looks shoddy, but somehow factory). It appears to have a factory receiver hitch (more on this later). Also looks like I have the tranny cooler... let me know if I am wrong ...
Now the reason I say it looks like I had a factory receiver hitch.... I was poking around looking for a place to mount some trailering lights ... and I noticed something odd...
Looks normal:
Even has a mopar sticker on it...
But what the heck is this?!?!
Looks like the A-Holes cut apart a different hitch and welded the crud on there..... Dealership will be getting a nasty call from me.
