I know there's just something about my Moms truck that goes bad everytime I end up having to work on it. I've never had any problems with mine (knock on wood), but hers is just bad ju-ju. Lots of little annoying things go wrong that shouldn't happen. I do know that this experience makes me feel justified for spending a little extra and buying K&N oil filters for my truck. They just ratchet right on and right off. They seem to be a bit tougher too.

They're not that bad. I paid just under $10 each for mine. Not cheap, but they sure come off easy. Just did the Camry this morning - the filter is right next to the exhaust manifold. I can reach up with my long 1" box-end and work that puppy right off.

Hell, last four times I was in Advance Auto they had a K&N filter bundled with one brand of full synthetic oil or another. Damn cheap thataway.

I hadn't tried one as I usually make a separate trip to NAPA for a Gold (Wix) filter. But at last change time Advance ran a 5 Qt. jug of Castrol Edge with K&N filter for $29.99. Tough to beat that deal, so I have a K&N on my truck currently...

This is usually a result of whoever installed the filter did not put oil on the seal before installing the filter. Without the oil film, it sets up real good due to all of the heat/cool cycles of driving. Also, never use a wrench to install the filters. Hand tight is more than enough.

I always dip my finger in clean oil and put it on the o-ring but last 2 times i did hand tight i ended up blowing the seal. Im not weak but it as tight as i could. With a filter wrench Ive never had one blow though.

I have had some stubborn oil filters before, but nothing that I couldn't break free with my hand, or worse case with a strap wrench. i guess i have just been lucky, that or I don't have weak hands like Weed ^^
