Exhaust Help
I have an 07 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.7 liter hemi V8 and I am looking to put a true dual exhaust in it, the only problem is I have been looking on flowmaster and magnaflow websites and either of them don't seem to have an exhaust kit for my truck. I am basically looking for something that doesn't let me loose horsepower, which I've heard cat back exhausts do, and something with an aggressive sound, at the time money isn't an issue I just want to get the best dual exhaust for my truck that is going to help it performance wise and fuel economy wise as well. Any suggestions or website links would be helpful, thanks much.
you don't need to find an exact kit that works with your truck...what you need to do is figure out what muffler you want..get an idea how you want to plan your piping (and/or see what others have done), take into account that you have mds which means you don't want it to be wide open (mds sounds like crap on some exhausts.) , Are you looking for piping to come all the way out the rear somewhere (most instances will drone), here is my 'true dual' setup..only true up to muffler which I purposely 'flipped' to get a single out thus retaining enough back pressure for efficient scavenging...

and dumped over axle to keep interior cab noise to a minimum and eliminate drone...

I wanted to put on the flowmaster 40 series because I have heard that those have a nice sound plus give you performance gains, and yes I am looking for it to come out of the rear although if it is going to sacrifice some gains then it doesn't really matter, I also need something that is going to provide enough back pressure.
You heard wrong. Flowmasters flow terrible compared to most other mufflers. They flow no more than stock. Your best bet is to get a Magnaflow Y to replace the crimped Y where your factory Y goes from 2 into 1 and use the Magnaflow #16700 cat-back kit. It will flow just as good as running dual pipes all the way back without the mess and is all stainless so it wont rot away like Flowmaster does.
If your engine is stock, ie: no cam, head work or blower, then this set-up is more than enough.

I agree...I ran flow 50 delta's for a year and 'thought' they performed well because of the noise...once i switched to magnaflows, i got my peace and quiet back in the cab again, and my truck sounded muscular, not louder and my times started to drop more.. to me, Flowmasters is yesterdays muffler. They are still around because they still have a market from the 'old' school guys that still believe that they are still a performance muffler..maybe other vehicles, just not a ram with a hemi..
