My 2003 1500 5.7 Hemi is pulling the following codes: P0137, P0440, P0441 and after searching I have a few questions.

1. P0137 - is a bad o2 on Bank 1 Sensor 2 is located to the rear of the catalytic converter. Which side Driver or Passenger???

2. P0440 - Gas Cap (REPLACED) and/or EVAP hoses. Should I replace the hoses or EVAP canister, Or Both?

3. P0441 - EVAP Canister blocked and/or Leak Detection Pump or purge connector. Should I replace one by one or all at the same time?

I've done many searches on this thread but can't find the "exact" fix. I will have time this weekend to get this done. I'm no car expert but am willing and able!

 

Bank 1 is drivers side. Bank 2 is pass side. Sensor 1 is pre-cat and sensor 2 is post cat.

As for the last 2 codes, you have a leak somewhere. Either in the hoses, the nipples at the end where the connect or a crack in the canister itself

 

Thanks for the quick response. Is the Bank 1 Sensor 2 easy to get to? And, is the EVAP canister on the Driver side between gas tank and back seat with a metal protection frame around it?

Sorry for the questions, I just purchased this truck for cheap(My first truck) from a dude that didn't want to spend time/money fixing it and so I am not familiar with it. But I was able to pull up the codes using the ignition hack.

You can use a 3/4" wrench to unscrew the O2 and yes it should be easy to get to.

And you are looking at the right area for the evap can

 

O2 sensors are usually 7/8" are they not?

 

Im fairly sure my wrench in my door pocket is 3/4 but then again the other end of that wrench could be 7/8......lol

 

when I got a 0440, I found the two evap hoses running along the left frame rail next to the cat converter had actually melted and collapsed. Might take a look at those while you are at it...

 

Just an FYI, bank #1 is always the bank with cylinder #1. It's good to know so you can reference where bank #1 is one Some Other Brands (aka Brand "X").

 

This is true, but most people don't know that even though brand "F" has #1 on the passenger side, if you renumbered the cylinders the same as Dodge/GM, the firing order is actually the same as the 5.0HO, 351W and all of the newer OHC engines (4.6L, 5.0, 5.4L, 6.2L). Just some useless trivia for ya
