Default Auto gearbox fault

Hi
I was towing my 5th wheeler on thursday and i kept getting these codes come up, Gear ratio error 4th gear and gear ratio error 5th gear, i was at the time using the superchips towing mode but when it happened for the second time im switched back to stock mode and it continued to produce the fault in stock mode, i could feel a jerk when it changed gear on a couple of occasions when it did it the third time thats when it threw up the fault, Anyone got any ideas

Cheers

Neil

P0735, P0734? Did you clear the code and reset the PCM? if so are you able to go into O/D still?

How does the tranny fluid smell?

O/D clutches maybe on the way out if they are not already. Bye Bye Trans.

I assume you have checked the fluid. What is the specific code ie, PO7**? How much does the 5th wheel weigh, and how many miles on the truck? Does it still throw the codes driving without the trailer?

The codes are p0734 and 735, i have checked the trans oil and it still looks as good as new although it seems to be slightly higher than full when its hot but the dip sticks arent that easy to be spot on with. it doesnt seem to throw codes when not towing other than when i had it in mileage mode on the sc tuner the other day as previously mentioned, the 5th wheeler ways 3000kg and i towed all last year with no probs.
The truck has 48000 miles on it

Thanks

I cleared the codes but did not reset the pcm is that just disconnecting the battery for a while?
oil looks good but i did not smell it
when i cleared the codes it would revert back to normal driving for about 20 miles then you can feel a jerk for 2 or 3 times then the light comes on.
also what is MIL request

Thanks

Why were you towing in 5th gear? That's a no no.
Those codes usually are caused by slippage in those gears. There is too mush of a difference between the input shaft speed and output shaft speed compared to the programmed in the pcm.

CEL = Check Engine Light
MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp

Pretty much the same thing

As for the codes, any P07xx is not good and and usually means rebuild time.

I wasn't deliberatly towing in 5th gear even in towl haul mode it drops into 5th the only way i can avoid 5th is by setting up the shift schedule to avoid 4th and 5th this is how i managed to get home. what if i got the dealership to reprogramme the ECU then drive for a while and see how it is before i go down the rebuild route?. I did wonder whether it was the superchip tuner that had created a fault. i towed for the last 18 months with no problems, then i bought the superchips and im getting faults. i have now reset the pcm and it seems to be better, didn't have any dtc's on my 120 mile run home.
Cheers
