2003 4.7L overheating .. need help
I booked an appointment at accurateenginesdotcom for next week. They have a remanufactured long block engine for $1995 plus $795 installed. I had quotes above $5000.
I would rather keep my truck and have an engine with zero miles on it. Otherwise I'd be worried about whats going to happen next.
Since they will have it all apart, is there anything I should do to mod it while I have the chance? I was thinking throtle body spacer ... maybe an e-fan... anything else?

We'll if finance is no problem...I would replace the entire exhaust system!! I hate the stock exhaust manifold on the 2001..ports are too small and constricting. It would add greater Horsepower to your new engine!! You got a good deal on the motor!!

If it helps at all, this guy did a 4.7 engine swap. It doesn't look easier or faster than just getting new/fixed heads.

Well, I'm back from my road trip to get my engine rebuilt.
What an AMAZING company. I was treated like royalty! They had my engine out in under two hours and had the new one in by the end of the day! It was late in the day and they wanted to make sure it was fully tested so they paid for my hotel room and gave me a loaner (which was a Sebring convertable!).
I drove home without a single issue! I've been driving it for two days now and it's very responsive and I think my gas mileage has greatly increased!!
Very clean shop, super friendly staff, amazingly fast, no surprises. I am so impressed. I'd give them 5/5 or better if I could!
I ended up with a remanufatured engine with new water pump, egr, fan clutch and spark plugs. They have a standard 3 year / 100,000 mile warranty.
All for $3100US.

Good deal. The main reason for the initial overheat that I have seen is a partially clogged radiator. Common on early 3rd gen Rams it seems. You might get it up to operating them and then shut it off and check for cool spots in the fin areas to rule out a radiator issue.
It is a new radiator. Yes, the old one was clogged and i changed it a year ago.
It was definately a cracked head which led to pressurizing the cooling system. Then the exhaust gasses would vent and take coolant with it. Loss of coolant = overheat.
I think it all started when I towed 4000lbs and had 1200lbs in the box on a 95 degree day .. my fan cluch was very weak and my water pump was failing.
Watch your temp guage! Don't let it get hot!!

Im glad to see you have everything fixed up. When faced with putting out that much money for a head/ head gasket job, I would likely put out a few hundred more as you did and just get a new long block. What establishment did you use?
