I got a 2nd gen so i usually over there. But, I got a friend that has a 2003 ram 1500 and he said the fan only works sometimes and if it does only on high. I don't have all the details now but i just wanted to see if it was a known problem or something. I don't know if it happens when the heat is on but i know it does when the AC is on. Any ideas?

 

Most likely the blower motor resistor.

is there a way to tell if either is the culprit?

 

If high comes and goes, then I would suspect the blower, ignition switch or speed control switch. If it's just the 3 lower speeds coming and going, then the resistor block is where i would start.

 

If it always only works on high, it's the resistor. If it cuts in and out it could be the ignition switch.

 

ok thanks ill tell him all the info... now with this info i would be leaning toward the resistor as the problem

 

You could try to wiggle or flip the key back and forth to see if it is the ign switch. Not 100% way to tell but might identify it
