Default swap to challenger tranny?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I am new to dodge and even american vehicles. I've had a 2005 Ram 1500 with the 4.7l auto for a couple years and my transmission is acting up. I am going to have a shop look at it and if it's gonna need replaced instead of something simple, i was thinking about my options. is it possible (and worth it) to get a new challenger tranny and put it in. The reason being, I would like to get a 6.1l engine from the challenger someday but don't have the money right now. so could I put the automatic challenger tranny on my 4.7 and then get the 6.1 later down the road? if someone could also get me the transmission code that'd be great. or if someone could point me in the right direction for some good information about this stuff. I tried googling but didn't have much luck with technical info.

The 4.7L and 5.7L have a different bolt pattern from what I have seen. It also is probably a different length in the cars since it is a totally different trans in the Challenger/Charger/ 300C

from what i have seen they do not have a different bolt pattern. seeing as the 45RFE and 545RFE are the same tranny with different programming. but.... what do i know?

I'm pretty sure there isn't a different bolt pattern (they all follow the classic small block mopar bellhousing pattern) but the NAG1 uses a different mounting setup and driveshaft attachment. I don't know if you could make it work programming wise even if you were able to custom fit into a truck.

You may be right John. I thought I had read where the 4.7L had the same as the old LA engines and the Hemi was different. This is why they say to use the Hemi trans when doing the 4.7L to 5.7L engine swap. I dunno.

The new hemis can be bolted up to any old LA small block trans as long as you have a spacer and adaptable flywheel/TC. The 3.7, 4.7, 5.7, 6.1 have the same bellhousing pattern. There may be strength differences internally, couldn't tell you for sure there.

also, the NAG1 tranny wasnt built to handle the weight of a truck, especially a truck carrying a load.... thus the 545RFE
