5.7 Vin 'D' Interchange?
Hello all. I recently purchased a 2007 Ram 2500 with a 5.7 Hemi. Doesn't run, won't turn over with a breaker bar on the crank. It was a work truck for Alltel and has 140,000 miles. I figured it either ate a main or rod bearing, or piston rings. Either way, I will probably end up replacing the motor. I know I need a block from a D-code truck with no MDS, but I don't know if all vin D 02-08 5.7's will work, or if it's just 06-08... ? Thank you for any help you have to offer. If it's of much help, a short block works for me. I don't need anything but the bottom end.

I think the D is the same from 03-08. I would go as new as possible. The 06-08 have the same coil set-up compared to the 03-05, not that it really matters. The 03's had some valve spring issues so if you find a low mileage 03, I would change the valve springs before installing it.
The short blocks should all interchange from 03-08 if a D.

Thankya sir. The cheapest long block I've found actually turns out to be local, $1975 with 60k on the odometer of the truck it's still sitting in. Looks like his day sucked worse than mine haha. I'll have to sell my topper to come up with the rest of the funds.
Thanks again! Will hope to update this thread by next week with some good news about a running Ram.

Another question. I've found a short block in Cali, for $800 obo on Ebay...

And also have that complete motor locally. Now, I think the short block on ebay is coming out of a car, with how he says 05+? Which means it would have MDS. But, from the snooping around and research I've done, the car/truck shortblocks are the same, and the difference between MDS and non-MDS blocks is that the ones that run MDS have four solenoid ports in the block, with the oil passages that run to MDS-style lifters. So if I bought the short block I could just block off the solenoid ports and use my non-MDS lifters... right? Or am I missing something....
