P2181 can be set by a bad thermostat

I had my thermostat changed about a month and a half ago. I have had alot of problems with with my mpg and exhaust. I would go from 15mpg all the way down to 6mpg. Took it to the shop and they told me that my cats were stopped up and this is what was causing my poor gas mirage. Not only was I getting sucky gas mileage but would blow black smoke out the tail pipe that smelled like pure gas. Well long story short and 650to bucks down the roads had new cats and straight pipes out the back true duals. Still didn't help had the same issue of dumping fuel but this time and now the exhaust commingle just from one side of the engine. I replaced o2s because it was throwing a 139, 159, 171 codes that's when I got the 2181 code.
