Rear locking up on turns?
Hey guys,
Just bought my truck a week ago off a dealer. I assume this may be a common occurrance since all the trucks I looked at at dealers did this: when rounding a corner, 90* or sharper, the rear axle likes to lock and unlock through the turn chirping the tires with or without any gas being applied. Now I assume this may just be because the trucks have been sitting for a couple months and the rear oil has dripped out of the clutches and they're not disengaging on the turns properly until the oil gets built back into them after some driving.
All I know is, my rear did it on my truck when I bought it a week ago, but now it drives perfectly normal after driving some distance.
Anyone have any insight into this being signs of a problem or is it just what I think it is?

No, a posi (AKA LSD) should not chirp around corners. You need to either pull the rear diff cover and check everything or at least check the oil level. A LSD needs friction modifier fluid (3oz per qt of oil). If the oil is low or no friction modifier fluid and rear end will grab around corners.

yes still the corporate 9.25" rear end.
Capacity :
Rear: 2.21 qt 75W-140 with 4oz friction modifier (many synthetics have the friction modifier in them already, just check the bottle)
Front: 1.69 qt 75W-90

Mine does grab a little during a right turn but it has for the last 30k miles or so. I assumed it always did it, or maybe started when I switched to these tires at that time. I admit I haven't checked the diff and it is supposedly a ticking time bomb...

Yep, I'd do a fluid change and add a bottle of friction modifier to it. I've never had an issue with my truck (which has an aftermarket Auburn LSD) but it's been changed at 15k intervals with a fresh bottle of modifier.
My Grand Cherokee has automatic lockers in both the front and rear diffs, I use synthetic fluid in it with friction modifier in it, but it wants an additional half bottle per or it'll ratchet and grab a little around turns...

This is exactly what happened with mine.
