Default 2006 ram 1500 sluggish trans engagement after sitting overnight

ok so just bought a truck 2 weeks ago and it engaged into D and R with no issues even after sitting then all of the sudden i noticed if i start it up after sitting and throw it right into gear it takes a few seconds 5-10 maybe before it really seems to have full power.

i also notice on hills sitting at a stop if you let off the brake the truck rolls back not sure if that's common on gas trucks as i came from a 12v cummins that would chug up any hill at an idle if you didn't hold it back.

What size engine, 4.7L or 5.7L? 4x4? How big of a hill are we talking about?

As for your slow gear shifts, i would check your oils if you havent already.

I would start with a fluid/filter change. You may have a filter o-ring leaking.

Guessing you have a auto trans. since you are talking of letting off the brakes and rolling, you need ATF+4.
As for the filter, i am not sure.

this is a very common problem. no harm comes from it really. the TC drains fluid out and back into the pan while it sits overnight. that hesitation at first is the pump filling the TC back up with fluid.

Sounds like the filter drain back issue that Dirtydog talked about a while back. Wix or some one had a bad batch of filters that would allow drain back and cause similar symptoms.

edit**
here is the thread i was thinking of.

Don't know if you, or the dealership gave it a fluid swap recently, but it might be worth checking out. if nothing else, you will at least know you have fresh fluid and filters in there.

I had the drain back issue after getting a trans flush ended up being the pressure line on the cooler it has a check valve that can go bad and cause the drain back
