Default Trying to clean EGR valve

I have a dodge ram 2007 5.7 (2500 HEMI) and I am having an idle problem. I took this car to pepboys and had some routine maintenance work done. The car was working just fine before I took it there. When I got it back, the car shuts off when I stop at a red light. Took it back there and they didn't know what was wrong with it. I took it to pomoco next and they took 5 days and ended up cleaning the throttle body. Well, my problem is still here. When stopping the car either has a rough, lower than usual idle or shuts off. I have had several people tell me to replace the egr valve. I was wondering, could I just try to clean it and see if that fixes the problem? I was looking at the DIY for the gen 3 RAMs on replacing the EGR valve, only, I cannot seem to find it in my truck where they say it should be. So I guess thats two questions:
1: can I try to clean it instead of replace it
2: Where is it located in the dodge ram 2007 HEMI

Attached is under my hood. You can barely see the alternator, but the DIY says it should be just below that. I tried to take the picture as close as possible to where it is in the DIY... No EGR there in mine.

Where you would find the EGR valve and tube on your 2500 Hemi you'll see these:

Name: egrblock.jpg
Views: 5245
Size: 97.8 KB

Which would be standard Mopar parts PN 1-53032739AA = EGR block plate and bolts and PN 04891312AA = EGR tube delete for intake.

Pickup trucks above a certain GVRW (basically 3/4 ton and larger trucks) do not have to conform to the same emission standards as 1/2 ton trucks which basically must conform to the same standard as passenger cars.

You DO NOT have an Exhaust Gas Recirculation system, you lucky bastard... LOL...

This is NOT your problem.

I've posted it MANY times before, I wouldn't let Pep Boys add air to my tires!!!

Since the truck DID NOT have this issue prior to going to Pep Boys, I think it would be beneficial to know exactly WHAT "routine maintenance" work they performed? Did they clean the throttle body? Because your issue sounds like they damaged the IAT to me and this component is located right behind the throttle body...

Here is all work performed and the car ran beautifully before they touched it:

Transmission fluid exchange
Power steering flush
Fuel system cleaning through
induction cleaning
throttle plate cleaning
complete collant exchange
oil change

I am a really big noob so I do not know much about cars yet haha. I just really want this fixed. Could this all be coincidence and that its my fault for being negligent?

After they couldn't figure what was wrong, I took it to pomoco and they said they cleaned the throttle body. I still have this problem even after that. I'm tired of being told it's fixed when it isn't. Pepboys gave me a bull**** story about it being fixed when it happened immediately when I left. They said they "reflashed the computer" and that fixed it... Lies. They then went on to tell me how it was happening to thousands of dodge owners and that "nobody could figure out what was wrong". They kept telling me how much they searched the web and could not find the solution to my problem.

haha thanks for confirming there wasn't one. I had spent about an hour looking for it O_O

Hey Hammer, I have a 1500 but its a Mega Cab ( 2500 really ). I am assuming that I have an EGR? Is this correct because it still is a 1500.

If they did a fuel injection cleaning one or more of the injectors might of become clogged. It happened to me after a fuel injection cleaning . I poured some seafoam into the tank and drove it on the freeway for a bit and the problem went away. good luck ....

Half the things on your list are BS items that are basically redundant or things where they just grabbed a $2 bottle off the shelf, dumped it in and charged you for a "cleaning".

I also question how it's possible Pep Boys charged you to clean the throttle body (aka throttle plate) and then Pomoco found it necessary to clean it again?

Although I won't rule out some gunk getting flushed thru the fuel system and clogging a fuel injector, I'm still betting they either hosed or fouled the IAT sensor, since they would have been right there at it to both clean the throttle body plate AND for an "induction" cleaning.

Just a couple of things:

Your truck's cooling system calls specifically for a Hybrid Organic Acid Technology coolant and I have yet to see Pep Boys put it in ANY radiator that specifically calls for it. If you have an over-heat that destroys the engine and it's discovered that you are using a non-Hoat anti-freeze, you're warranty coverage for the engine is null and void.

I find that flushing the power steering and the transmission often causes more problems than it prevents. NOT good on seals. Just drain what you can and re-fill. I do the tranny twice as often as the manual calls for, so it doesn't take long to have completely fresh fluid in it anyway.

The "fuel system cleaning", "induction cleaning" and "throttle plate cleaning" can be done by YOU, in the driveway, in 20 minutes with a $7 bottle of Sea Foam, a $3 can of carb cleaner and a socket and since Pomoco found it necessary to re-clean the throttle body, I'd say you'd do a better job of it!

You know, I have very little experience with Mega gassers and I've never looked. But if I were to guess, I'd say no, you don't have one. A Mega 1500 is a 1500 in emblem only, it shares almost everything in common with a QC 2500...

So a "throttle plate cleaning" is the same thing as a "throttle body" cleaning??? I'm not so mechanically inclined but I have a feeling this will all change after this hassle... I spend 560 dollars just for them to perform these services. I am going to try and start doing this stuff myself, starting with my next oil change. I'm also wondering if there is some sort of "service manual" for my vehicle... I saw my dad with one for an older truck and went into great detail about whats under the hood.

As for the list, I got something in the mail saying that these things needed to be done. I wasn't aware that these things could be done by me EASILY. Haha, I will be researching how to do this stuff now. My dad used to take care of my car, until he passed two years ago.

yes the "throttle plate" is the movable part of the "throttle body" and the part you clean. same thing and once it's cleaned right its a shiny piece of steel there would be no doubt if it was clean or dirty. someone either didnt clean it when they said they did or someone said they cleaned it and it was already clean. either way somebody ripped you off.

for the shade tree or driveway do it yourselfer its hard to beat either a haynes or chilton manual - they have pictures lol.

i agree with the iat sensor getting fouled the symtoms would be exactly what yours are.
