Default Hemi Tick

How loud should the famous "Hemi Tick" be? I had the pickup running after I changed the plugs this afternoon and the tick sounded a little louder than usual. It sounded like it was coming from underneath more than on top.

Nothing out of the ordinary. The old plugs gapped at .045''-.049''...they definately needed changed.

That's not so bad - the gap is supposed to be .045. The ones on my C were .050-.053 at 49K. "... from underneath..." - exhaust leak?

I don't think it's an exhaust leak, but it's possible. It's always a had a little tick...it just sounded a little louder today for some reason. I could hardly hear it from the top but could really hear it from underneath.

I've been giving it a shot of Sea Foam every other oil change, but maybe I'll go to every service and see if that makes a difference.

Remember, its a 'tick' and not a 'thump' or 'crack' its not very loud, but its definately there and ticking away..

My tick is the same way, you can barely make it out from above, it's coming from the bottom/side. It sounds like lifter ticking to me. Mobile 1 oil makes it the loudest - I use royal purple when i can afford to.

My 03 is exactly the same. 117000 miles and gulp......still ok lol.
I've tried many different oil brands (synth) and they all tick, just at different sound levels.
The quietest, was when I first bought the truck and it had dyno oil in it of ? amount of miles.
Go figure.
I thought on my first oil change there was a BIG problem with the engine ticking like that, until I read on here about the infamous Hemi Tick.
Al.
