choosing best leveling kit, crank tb, shock combination
Suspension is not my forte, I'm reading I can crank tb or install a level kit in my 05 1500 4wd. I know a leveler is just reindexing the key. Is it safer and smoother to use a level kit? I just want 2 inches of lift on front to level no more no less. Also if I level or crank the tb should I get a tad longer shock that's designed for 2 inches lift? I want to keep it simple safe and effective. Speaking of shocks she's mainly a road queen but will do some work hauling wood pulling a car out of a ditch etc what shocks would be recommend? I like smooth ride, if i want a harsh ride I'll bobtail my tractor.
I've installed a couple sets for people and have cranked the stock keys twice for guys. I can't tell where one is any different than the other. They both exert pressure on the torsion bar causing the front end up. Ride stiffens a bit with both.
IMO crank it, but don't go more than 2". New shocks are recommended but you can save $ by simply getting relocation brackets to raise your existing shocks 2"...

I started a list of shock part numbers for certain lift heights...

I just bought shocks for mine, i'm cranking the t-bars on friday. I just used summit racing's website and specified a 2" lift for the front. I also got stock height for the rear while im at it, i'll replace those as well. Hammer helped me pick out the brands and I decided to go with the skyjacker hydro since I don't off road much and use my truck more as a DD.
Hammer, I'm going to be doing probably 2 inches, how bad is that going to put my cv angles at? Will I be okay with it, I know that doing a level like this will put stress on some things, but will the 2" be reasonable if im just using it as my DD?

Obviously 2" of suspension lift height (without using drop brackets that would come with a FULL suspension lift kit) will add some stress on front end components and will lift the CV angle some. But at 2" this is minimal and other than having to maybe replace wear components a bit sooner, you should have no problems.
BTW: I just put up a pair of ProComp ES3000 shocks for sale in the classifieds that came off my Jeep with less than 4000 miles on them. Like the Skyjacker Hydro shocks that citori just bought, these are a Tenneco made, white generic hydrogen filled, twin-tube shock. Length should be just about perfect for a 2 or 2.5" leveled 3rd Gen up front. I am listing them on DF for you guys DIRT CHEAP for a day or two before I put them up on Jeep sites where I'm sure they'll sell in a couple of hours just like my Jeep spacers did (I had them sold within 2 hours of posting them on a Jeep forum).

Hammer, have you ever seen someone install a reverse shackle kit, that lowers the rear 2", I'm wanting to level my 08 1500 QC 4x4 and I'm thinking this kit my be best for me that way I don't change the cv angles, plus I only want to run 285/55/20 so I think they would fit no problem, any thoughts

Okay sounds good I think the pro of having a leveled stance overrides the con of the wearing parts in this case. Thanks Hammer I really appreciate all the help you give everyone on here.

I have NO experience with lowering a vehicle, but I personally know someone who used the Belltech drop kit (lowering shackles) on his '06 Ram 4x4 to drop the rear to level and he's had no problems other than the fact I make fun of him all the time... LOL...
I wanna say he bought it online for about $75...
