Rough Country 6" lift? Recommendations?
2WD though, completely different kit, you don't have to worry about front drive shaft indexing...
I have the RC 4~5" lift on a '02 5.9L..
the parts and pieces are solid.. there was issues with the indexes on many of the holes/slots, or whatever you call them that required a lot of prying.. but it went on, and it's been fine for me.. I DON'T do a lot of off-road though, just tank trails on base, and several 'improved' roads in the Croatan.. I would not feel comfortable hitting anything even approximating black diamond..
I do have a couple questions for the experts here though:
I work on base, and a truck the same model year as mine (but a regular cab).. It sits in front of the 1/9 area.. it is at least 3" higher than mine, and has 38" meats on it.. There is a drop bracket installation where the torsion bars terminate, and it rests at least 3~4" below stock..
the CV's rest at an angle, if not the same as mine, a little more relaxed...
Anyway, what lift kit could this be? There aren't that many available for our rigs.. There is the RCX, the Rancho, and SuperLift- but that is it. (5.9L mind you, with the 4.7L or 5.7 later year there was more- something about getting around the tranny/TC)...
second question: does having the torsion bars dropped under the frame like that create an issue? It seems to me the suspension travel range of the wheel would be the same, but simply raised higher... I know that sounds kinda crazy, but there are lifts around that fully extend the travel range several inches... not just give it a higher starting range.. Are those torsion bars being dropped weaker than with the stock position? Does it allow more travel than stock?

Drop the guy a note under his windshield wiper with your e-mail address or something like that the next time you see his truck. I'm sure if he has put that much effort into his truck, he'd love to talk about it with another enthusiast.
I been researching this like crazy and from what I see the only two kits who use the indexing ring are Pro Comp and Sky Jacker. BDS, Rough Country, Superlift, Zone and some others I looked at just provide a drive shaft spacer and no indexing ring for the differential. I called Top Gun Costumz spoke to two different guys and they both said its not needed, I spoke to one Rough Country rep through the online chat he said I dont need an indexing ring, I called in the morning the next guy said I dont need it either...(he didnt seem too knowledgable though, or didnt completely understand what I said) BDS is on the higher end of the market and dont even use one. So Im hoping that it will be okay. Sorry to bother you guys with this, but I rather be sure of what I'm doing then start breaking crap and spending even more money. Kits on its way! Rims are next...lol 35" tires on 20's. -24 offset?...or too much?
Thanks for everyones help and input!
PS
And yes Rough Country has a 6" and a 4" kit for 06-08 1500's.

i agree with the post about jeep lifts if you go read the jeep forums you will see they aren't regarded too good. i know the skyjacker truck kits are pretty much seen as the best kits for 6" of lift. if you look at 6" kits it seems the ones that allow 37 inch tires all have the ring that should say something.

I dunno just how much the poor quality rumors that permeate the Jeep forums are based on actual experience. It's very possible ONE guy had a bad experience and now all of the sudden EVERY Jeep forum opinion is they are crap.
I used to read the EXACT same thing about aftermarket Genuine Gears (after I had a sets of 4.56s installed front and rear. I have them and personally know four other guys with them (I mean like have been in their trucks) and I have yet to see an issue or even hear a hint of a whine for that matter. I personally think someone got a crappy install and the gears just happened to be Genuines and it snow-balled from there.
Now I've seen the Skyjacker kit on a torsion front Ram first hand (actually helped with the install) and I like what the ring seems to do. I also just like the quality of their kits (along with Rancho I think they are the two strongest IFS kits out there).
But there are a lot of guys with Rough Country kits and I think you'll be just fine. Too many times someone reads that a product is crap and just answers a post based on that when they have NO experience with the product themselves. I catch myself doing it at times, even though I try to add something to the effect that "I have read but have no experience with it myself" somewhere in my posts.
The one that I've seen (on a torsion front truck) that I can say to stay clear of is the Fabtech kit. The guy I know with one is on CV #3 on one side and #2 on the other and I've seen the angle it places the CV shafts at. NO GOOD...
