Rough Country 6" lift? Recommendations?
I been researching this like crazy and from what I see the only two kits who use the indexing ring are Pro Comp and Sky Jacker. BDS, Rough Country, Superlift, Zone and some others I looked at just provide a drive shaft spacer and no indexing ring for the differential. I called Top Gun Costumz spoke to two different guys and they both said its not needed, I spoke to one Rough Country rep through the online chat he said I dont need an indexing ring, I called in the morning the next guy said I dont need it either...(he didnt seem too knowledgable though, or didnt completely understand what I said) BDS is on the higher end of the market and dont even use one. So Im hoping that it will be okay. Sorry to bother you guys with this, but I rather be sure of what I'm doing then start breaking crap and spending even more money. Kits on its way! Rims are next...lol 35" tires on 20's. -24 offset?...or too much?
Thanks for everyones help and input!
PS
And yes Rough Country has a 6" and a 4" kit for 06-08 1500's.

I was thinking the same exact thing. I was trying to calculate what would be cheaper ordering a kit with one or ordering a kit without one and installing it. My main concern was DO I NEED IT. if i dont need it then i wont get it. As I mentioned earlier I just dont want to start ruining stuff on my truck BECAUSE of the kit. Ill throw it on if i feel some vibrations or somethn not right, ill order the ring.
I dunno just how much the poor quality rumors that permeate the Jeep forums are based on actual experience. It's very possible ONE guy had a bad experience and now all of the sudden EVERY Jeep forum opinion is they are crap.
I used to read the EXACT same thing about aftermarket Genuine Gears (after I had a sets of 4.56s installed front and rear. I have them and personally know four other guys with them (I mean like have been in their trucks) and I have yet to see an issue or even hear a hint of a whine for that matter. I personally think someone got a crappy install and the gears just happened to be Genuines and it snow-balled from there.
Now I've seen the Skyjacker kit on a torsion front Ram first hand (actually helped with the install) and I like what the ring seems to do. I also just like the quality of their kits (along with Rancho I think they are the two strongest IFS kits out there).
But there are a lot of guys with Rough Country kits and I think you'll be just fine. Too many times someone reads that a product is crap and just answers a post based on that when they have NO experience with the product themselves. I catch myself doing it at times, even though I try to add something to the effect that "I have read but have no experience with it myself" somewhere in my posts.
The one that I've seen (on a torsion front truck) that I can say to stay clear of is the Fabtech kit. The guy I know with one is on CV #3 on one side and #2 on the other and I've seen the angle it places the CV shafts at. NO GOOD...

Yeah, when you have a SFA you can really do some nice things with it. My truck is my first IFS truck, and because of how much I have into it with mods I'll have it a while, but I can safely say it will be my LAST IFS truck. Just too many limitations...
That's exactly why I bought the MC, I just sold my diesel and wanted a Hemi, but love the SFA, and I know alot of people bash the MC/Hemi combo, but I love it and everybody who rides in my truck compliments the ride, the sound and the truck itself.

Not sure if your confusion from talking with them was actually resolved.
The cost of these kits can drastically change the price of a lift, so many will recommend it, but not include it. Or even tell you you don't "need it, of have to install one". That is your decision, I have an 8" lift and installed one. Like Hammer suggested, 6" or more, might not be a bad idea if the extra $$$ is not gonna break the bank.

I looked at the indexing ring from TopGunz (the link u sent me) and sky jackers ring they both said 1500 series years 1994-2005. what about 2006+?
Now Im getting worried and thinking I shoulda went with Pro Comp lol
BTW-what color is your truck? Charcoal or black?
My truck is black, takes on the "charcoal" look when not spit shined.
Sorry for the link not being accurate.
FWIW, I had a 6" Pro Comp lift on my F250 and no ring, no issues.
RC's get fine reviews, so I'd think you'll be OK.

I know on Jeeps and Grand Cherokees some of the lower end models use a Rapezza and NEED a ring (or an upgrade to a double Cardan jointed front driveshaft). WJs with a double Cardan are in pretty huge demand at pick 'n pulls.
I'm of the opinion that the OP will be fine without the ring, unless he starts getting into some serious off-roading...
