New to me 05 Ram 1500 QC, but already have an issue
I just picked up a 05 Ram 1500 Quad SB 4x4 and 5.7L with the auto trans. today. Got it used, only has a couple thousand miles. Really love the truck. I don't think the ride is too bad, and I am not really concerned about the gas mileage. I figure with the money I am saving on the payments, I can use towards the fuel.
Anyways, in the first 50 miles of driving it, I have noticed that from starting from a stop, a number of times, there has been a loud rubbing noise coming from the rear end (I can't tell for sure, but guessing the rear). The best way I can describe the noise is...if a car were to try to take off from a start with the emergency brake on. But, the E-brake is not engaged. It goes away on it's own once I get it up to speed (like 20-25 mph). Anybody have any ideas what the cause of this is? Sounds real bad...and it upsets me that I just picked it up today, and have only put 50 miles on it, and need to take it in for service.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune so fast, but I did read on a past thread about a pin shearing off in rear diff. Just take to nearest dealer right away,it will be covered 100% by warranty. Good Luck!!! Let us know what the problem is.

Im thinking with only a few thousand miles it should be under warrenty, I would take it to the dealer and have it looked at. My son's jeep cherokee was making the same sort of noise you were talking about and it turned out to be loose lug nuts on the rear tires both of them. You could jack it up and spin the wheels to see if the brakes are draging, but if you got it from a dealer id take it back and let them fix it. just my 2 cents.

Thanks guys for your thoughts. I really do appreciate it. I drove a good 75 miles today, and it only did it once, very briefly. Yeah, I would assume it would be covered under warranty. It only has 3,200 miles. Purchased from a dealer, but a Chevrolet dealer, not a Dodge. Love the truck otherwise. Picked it up for under $26k, plus it has leather. I figure I saved $2k on a new one similarly equipped, but none in this area seem to have leather. The sport appearance package seems kinda hard to find too. I attached a picture. I look forward to being a member of this board, and doing some things to the truck (my first truck, always have had small cars). First things would be...step bars & tonneau cover. Then perhaps an exhaust.

Hey LXS nice ride. Sometimes I wish I had the QC too. Anyway, my first thought was the same as Muddauber's. You also mentioned you got it second hand. It is possible the previous owner fooled with the diffs. I would have it checked out right away just to be safe. Diffs are sensitive if not set up right let alone something going wrong. You could be grinding metal and not even know it. I'm not trying to scare you. I just don't want to see you unkowingly trashing your new ride when it all could have been prevented.

scox35...very nice. That is exactly the look I was going for. I'll keep those in mind. I need to do something soon. The wife has a hard time getting up in the truck. I can deal since I am tall, but man... those do look good.
And yeah, I call the local Dodge dealer and tell them about the noises and ask them to inspect the differential, just to be safe.

I bet'cha that is what is wrong with mine... e-brake. I've had that noise since new. Only once in a while. Stealership (high jacked that name from another user) looked into the dif and found nothing there.
The sound is like a soft howling from take off. Only happens once in a while. Anyways I am not to worried. I got just shy of 10K of milage on Ol' blue.
