These rims fit? If not, what specs do I need?

Stock 20" rubber is 275 on a 9" rim. They designate the sweet spot at 8.5" so there is more sidewall "cushion" for greater flexibility offroad. Stock puts the narrowest tire on a rim for expense purposes, plus they are essentialy car tires(stock tires)
A 285/70/17 will look pretty much like stock and you can keep them in the fender with a BS of 5.5-5.75. Stepping up to a 295/70, I would gear towards the 5.5 mark. For the 295/70 go with 5.25-5.5"BS. These choices will push the tires out between .25"-.75" over stock which is where I think you want to be without going to fender flares. 305+ are fairly wide and anything above 33" would require no more than 5"backspacing, so 4.5-5".

I'm getting there dog and appreciate it. And I wouldn't be prolonging this discussion if there was much else going on in the forum this morning. I do want more rubber than stock. Basically I want something with more meat and more aggressive looking but not necessarily "monsters". I think it will help to nail down a tire. So, if I go with Nitto 305/70R17, which are essentially 34 x 12.5, I'd be looking more for around a 4.5" backspace? What about offset? Should I go with 0?
These are the rims I have my eyes on for now if I can get them within the specs I need. VTEC Raptors in matte black. Mainly because of the decent look for the price. I think I can get a set of these in the $500 range vs. $600+ for others I have liked.
Not a Ram, but the right color anyway.

9" wide rim w/4.5bs will have -12mm offset. 0mm offset is a 5"bs'ing on a 9" wheel https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html
You could prob get away with 4.75"bs and maybe even a 5" but that's getting too close for comfort when spending that kinda dough.

Damn man, you are ALL over the place on this! From wanting a positive offset so you'll stay with a tire tucked under the truck to wanting aggressive A/Ts at 12.5" wide and a 4.5" backspaced wheel. That's what I run 4.5" BS / -12mm offset and my 12.5" tires stick out a good 2 3/4" - 3" out from under the tire well - which btw is about the best you'll do with a 12.5" wide tire, any more than maybe 1/2" tucked in from that will rub...

So, hopefully last question, if I am finally getting it. With the Nitto TG's in a 305/70R17, will these VTECs work? 17x9 with -12mm/4.53" bs? If so, how much approx would the tires stick out? And it's not so much the tires sticking out that I dislike as long as there is plenty still underneath the truck - make sense? I hate the look when I get behind some trucks and it looks like the inside edge of the tire is almost outside the wheel well - know what I mean?

So, what's shown in your sig pic? That, I could live with easily.

That's ok, it's just every time I come back to this thread - you make me have to think and that gives me a headache, LOL...
Yes, sig pic is 35x12.5x17 tires on 17x9 4.5 bs, -12mm wheels with 4" of lift.
By looking at it from directly in front or behind the truck about 3/4 of the tire is within the wheel well and 1/4 is outside of it...

Hammer, your stance and tire situation is well within what I would consider "normal" for a lifted truck with larger than stock tires. I wouldn't mind that at all. So, the wheels I posted the link to above are very similar specs to yours. The tires I'm looking at are probably a little smaller. But given that I'm not doing a left, only a level, I think it will look pretty good. I should be good with 34" tires and no lift, right?

Sorry to revive this thread, but I thought it would be better than starting a new one. As per the most recent posts above, I was all set on getting a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers in a 305/70/17 mounted on the Raptor wheels (pictured above) in a 17x9 with 5x139.7 lug pattern and -12mm offset/4.53" backspace. I am probably going to order the rims online and then get the rubber from my tire dealer.
The online seller that has the rims has their own "wheel finder" tool that is separate from what the website uses (which is known to be faulty). When I use their tool to search by vehicle, and choose stock 17" rims, it lists the same wheels I want but it recommends +15mm offset, not -12mm. And when I plug in that I have the 20" option, it lists wheels with either +15mm or even +18mm in a 20" version.
So, since I'm ordering online, I really want to make sure I get it right. According to my build sheet, my stock daisies are 20 x 9. And I currently have the OEM tires mounted on them. I hope this doesn't throw Hammer into a frenzy again, and I know he told me his has 17" with -12mm mounted on his red Ram, and they look good to me. I just really wanted to come back to the forum and make sure I get the right thing. Thoughts?

Thanks Hammer. I'm doing this for my son and he likes the look of the tires pushed out a little. The trick for me is how much is too much. I guess flares are always an option but, for me, having them stick out so much that mud, rocks, etc. get slung all down the side of the truck sucks. I'll not only be changing rims, I'll be going with a bit more aggressive looking and bigger tiresl. Something like some Nittos or Duratracs. If I don't do a lift, and just do a level, what's a decent size tire to go with? And, if I don't want the tires to stick out much or at all, what kind of offset should I look for?
