Default Quick air filter/intake question...

I just bought an 07 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi and the air filter is due for a change. I probably won't be installing an exhaust or getting a programmer anytime soon, like within the next 9 months. So I'm wondering how I should go about replacing the air filter. Standard paper filter? K&N panel filter? Or an Ebay or DIY intake? Just looking for some input on my options and knowledge about running an intake with out having any other mods. Thanks.

Robbie

I would go with the ebay cheapo intake setup. When ur done making ur own intake itll still b around 30 bucks same price as the diy one. But if u like doin it yourself then build and b creative with it see what happens

Ya I like the Ebay ones. Simple and cheap but look better than the DIY PVC pipe ones. I think I'll give one of those a go and build a heat shield for it.

Robstar go for Chromeintakes stage 3 Cai. Got for 37 bucks works great. Fitment is great and sits outside of the compartment for cooler air. Filter is built well too. Get the 3pc kit not 2pc.

Awesome! Thanks NoLimitz. I found that intake on Ebay and it looks pretty complete. Did yours come with the IAT sensor hole and a tube for the valve cover breathers?

Came with everything. The clamps are ok, id buy some stronger ones in future. When putting filter on go from under the truck as its a snug fit getting the larger end of filter through the ac lines.

Saw one of those on ebay (Chromeintakes) and was also interested. Will be looking forward to seeing one setup.

Silly me guys I apologize I got caught up with work and slipped my mind. I'll def get those shots for ya tonight after work. Also for those wondering there's not much heat soak either my iat temps fairly the same. You will have to loosen up the iat wiring a bit as its very taught, I just undid some of the wire loom and a zip tie to give it some slack. You get plenty of hose too so I may make a catch can inline for the truck as well.

Also as far as water is concerned I've run into no issues and to put my own fear aside I wrapped some TP..toilet paper around the filter on a drive to work in rain to see for sure if water was a issue, came back dry so i figure this is a safe bet for most part

I got an Ebay intake and it was crap but I am not sayin they all are. I had a K&N drop in filter for my stock airbox and could tell a gain in power and MPG but not alot. A CAI like K&N will give a nice mean sound when you WOT. My buddy gave me his old Spectre Cold air intake and I love it. They are only 150$ from a parts store or online.
