The last few weeks my dodge is making a hauling noise from the back axle,
first i thought it was the tyres, but after changing them, the noise was still there.
so i went to the garage, and he thought it was the rear right axle bearing, i thought it was the diff.
after taken de cover of, i found the c- clip at the bottom but couldn't find anything broken.
so i'f taken out the shaft, and there was some wear to be seen at the location where it runs along the bearing.
could this be the cause of the noise? and if so cant it be fix t?
I reckon that a replacement bearing wil not last very long with the shaft being damaged.
thanks in advance,
Rick,

There is another very recent thread with links to give you an idea of where to go from here. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common issue.

The bearings and races you are speaking of are the Pinion shaft bearings. These do cause howling noises and are the hardest to install because the crush collar must be replaced, crushed to proper specification and you need to make sure the proper backlash has been retained as well as making sure the pre-load is correct.
