A dealership kept it 2 weeks and I rented a car during that time.... Got my Durango back, and about 3 weeks later I'm having the exact same problem. I'm a 1 owner, well taken care of, keep all my oil changes and other stuff done as needed. Any help to tell this dealership where to look for this problem world be greatly APPERCIATED! It has flashing light on in the dash also.
Need you to answer a few questions:

1) What year is it and engine does it have?

2) What light is "flashing" on the dash?

3) What did the dealer do that temporarily fixed the problem? (read the copy of the work order that you were given by them)

4) Does this happen only when moving or does it happen when you are sitting at Idle too?

5) When it happens what else shuts off? Radio? Headlights? Do the brakes get mushy?

6) Are you able to "force" it to happen? or is it "completely random"?

Those questions will help steer us towards a possible solution.

I have a 03, 5.7 hemi with the hunting, surging idle at under 1000rpm. Once above 1000rpm it runs fine, this is what the shop has done so far:

Replace throttle by wire/ throttle body

new battery (still had original factory one)

Ran great for a month or so then hesitation returned at low rpm. Since then I tried disconnecting the battery and touching the cables together to drain the main circuit board capacitors. The darn thing runs excellent for a week then same ol same ol again?? is it a vacuum leak or the main board?? never any codes on he dash.

I have cleaned the TB its spotless, put new plugs in, air filter clean and the pvc valve is clean.......sounds like a egr to me but there is no egr on this year hemi 2500.

getting really sick of this and is dangerous when stalls while driving.

any ideas or anyone have this problem thanks
Did you ever find out what it was? I also have a 2004 ram 2500 hemi that is doing the same thing.

The cure for mine was to install factory morpar O2 sensors. Haven't had a problem since, seems strange but it's been running fine now for over a year.

That actually makes perfect sense, b/c when you disconnect the battery and discharge everything it resets the PCM fuel maps which are modified based on the feedback the Oxygen sensors send to the PCM... Basically it's a fine tuning adjustment that the PCM "learns" and stores to adjust the base fuel map, because every truck's engine runs slightly differently.

Glad you figured it out.

most of these guys want know what the symptoms are. Difficult to diagnose over the net. Aside from hesitating and running like crap. Changed the plenum yet? If not cat might be clogging.<---If so remove the upstream or 1st O2 sensor and see if anything changes then. Changed the IAC yet? Getting a CEL or missing? Runs bad only at idle or always? More info the better...

This is what I'd do..1st if your yr doesn't have the plenum issue then skip if so read the thread. 2nd the IAC can be checked with a meter. Or if you can't find a buddy who can. This way you're not throwing parts at it. 3rd do the dry/wet compression test. 4th IF the IAC is ok next would look into the TPS. 5th clean throttle plates while off the IM. (just be sure to use 'throttle body spray' like CRC brand) I have before /after pics in one of my albums on here if it helps.
Only remove the upstream o2 btw when testing for a clogging/clogged cat. CEL on?
