Have you ever actually weighed a Ram 1500? I have. My QCSB 4x4 with a full tank of gas and 160lbs of me weighed in at 5420lbs. The P rated tires have an extra 5k of load capacity beyond that, which well exceeds any safe rating of load in the bed. I think the bed is designed for at max 1500lbs maybe 2000lbs of cargo.

I've had a weighed in 1500lbs of cargo in the bed before and it barely deflected my P rated properly inflated cooper at3's.

Okay just to stop the argument I have E rated tires on my Durango. I got them more or less for a stronger tire that wouldn't look soft on me. I do not tow at all, and the only difference I have noticed is a bit of a harder ride - but who cares its a truck. If you want a BMW ride then go buy a BMW!

mopar man nailed it. seems so many people want to be the one who is "right". get whatever you want. e tires aren't going to affect the safe handling of your vehicle whatsoever. one of my good friends has a 2008 mega cab 4x4 dually diesel that is lifted with 22.5 or 24.5 aluminum semi wheels with semi tires on them and that thing handles like a damn sports car. more plies is just going to mean a sidewall that is a little more firm which will probably make for a *slightly* rougher ride...we're not talking solid rubber forklift tires here lol

I don't think anyone ever said it would be unsafe. I was trying to make a general point that E rated tires are unneccessary on a 1500. But since the op is getting a deal on them no reason he shouldn't go for them.

This is all great help and thanks for the clarification. From the general thoughts it sounds like E rated tires would be fine, but the ride would get a little more stiff. I honestly don't think the ride will bother me at all.

In terms of the breaking and control aspects of it. Does this hold true? Would "E" rated tires really make any difference on my breaking distance rather than a "D" rated?
