Question E rated Tires on 07 RC SLT

All,

I'm currently on the market to purchase some new tires for my 1500 Regular Cab SLT with the 4.7.

I found a decent deal on some E rated BFGoodrich A/Ts to replace my current D rated tires. It's my understanding that the E rated tires are made for a heavier truck, like a diesel or 3/4 ton.

Do you think I would notice any difference from going from a D to an E rated setup? Also, in theory wouldn't I get more life out of an E rated tire due to the fact that my truck is lighter than it's manufactured for?

I'd be interested in hearing your comments as the FAQ documents don't answer for rating, just Brand and Fitment.

d 8ply e 10ply has nothing to do with wear. its load carring the 10ply is higher. Not much ride differance I run 10ply when not towing air down to 40psi rides good.

Its definitely a harder tire. My brother did the same thing on his standard cab and his ride suffered as well as his braking distance.

Really, why would they have a worse braking distance? - Because of a harder compound/ply?

I can't remember if its discount tire or tire rack, but if you punch in ram 1500 and then pick an E load rated tire you get a big warning about ride quality, etc etc.

Whatever cyclone was trying to say, I can't understand it. Apparently spell and grammar check is not an option on his computer. I'm telling you an "E" rated tire is too stiff for your set up. Not only do you have a regular cab, but a 4.7 as well. You have a very light truck and an "E" rated tire are too stiff. If you want to risk your safety and who ever else's safety while riding in your truck than go ahead, but there is a weight rating on thoses tires for a reason.

My truck weighs thousands of pounds more than yours and I am running an "E" rated tire that is too stiff for my truck. My next tire will be a "D" rated to balance out my truck.

Your truck will be fine with load e tires. The only thing different is number of plies. They just have a higher weight rating. Your braking distance won't be effected. The e tires will probably say to inflate to 80 psi...which you could for a day or two but once.the tires are seated good you could probably be good with half of that.
