5Speed auto, tow haul, lock 3rd gear?
Hello, my first post...
I have a 04 Hemi 2500 QC 4X4 with the 3.73 rear. I see all the posts about the rear end gear swaps, however I wanted to see if anyone knows how to lockout 4th and 5th with the tow haul button? Mine only locks out 5th, and when I pull a 4000 lb boat between 65 and 70, the tranny hunts between 3rd and 4th with any head wind or any incline. I would like to do the gear swap, just not the $ in the play account right now. If I could keep the tranny in 3rd, that would solve my problem, don't want to burn the tranny up. Thanks!

It only locks out 5th gear. The tow/haul is supposed to use the trans temp to reduce trans temp when it get above a certain threshold. Some tuners can adjust the transmission shift points but I don't know if that is possible on a 2004 truck. I think dodge could benefit from a true 6 speed transmission. I know they have one but it more a tweaked 5-speed. It does separate the 5th and 6th gears a little more.

I have an 05QC 4X4 and had an 04QC 4X2 and the tow-haul didn't seem to lock anything out. It did change the shift points and it seemed to keep the torque converter from locking up until there was *******ly no pull on the trans such as a slight down hill or letting off the gas on a flat stretch. I do like it when towing or if I am on a curvy hilly stretch of road as it keeps the trans from shifting as much and doesn't seem to adversely affect the fuel mileage.

Gear swap is the way to go...it is on my list of mods, but at the moment I am just trying to keep fuel in the truck. But some advice until the gear swap is I try to speed up 5-10 MPH going downhill so when I hit an up hill I can let of the throttle just enough to keep it from shifting, and by the time at the top of the hill am right back at about the speed I wanted to average...maybe slightly slower, but easy enough to speed it back up slowly without shifting
