Default Question about Brakes

I have a 2007 ram 1500 4.7L 2WD. When doing hard braking, my tires are locking up and I am skidding. When I say hard braking, I mean someone cutting me off and having to get on the brakes real quick which sends me into a skid. Also I was towing a flat bed trailer (empty) and a light turned yellow and I had to stop kinda quick, and my tires locked up and I was skidding. It was not a stop that should have caused them to lock up. I have no ABS lights on and not reading any codes. Any ideas on what is going on? I have a cab over camper and boat and don't want to worry about locking up the tires on mountain roads. I am going to take it in, but wanted to see what you guys think first. Thanks

First off....do you actually have ABS?
Some trucks only have ABS on the rear. It was an option to put it on the front.

Sometimes you have to STOMP on the brakes to engage ABS. Sometimes mine will skid a bit on gravel/snow until I really get on the pedal.

Fronts are locking up. When I am skidding is on dry asphalt streets. I have never heard of newer vehicles not having ABS all the way around. How would I check to see if my fronts have ABS? Do you think anything is wrong with my truck, or does it just have crappy brakes? I have been so disappointed with this truck since I got it, hopefully this isn't another let down.

There should be an electrical pig tail going into your front hubs, if you have ABS on the front.
It's usually clipped to the hydraulic flexi-pipe feeding brake fluid to your caliper.

Are these factory orignal brakes, or have they been re-padded or full rebuild????

Its possible someone put a brake compound on that is too soft, and bites way too hard. It also possible that the priority valve is stuck, sending all the bias to the front.

Check to see if its ABS all the way around first, or just the back.

Ya I think they are just rear abs. I did not see any pigtail going down to the front brakes

The rear is usually ABS due to it being "light" in weight and it's an attempt to stop the rear being somewhat "lively" under heavy braking.
