Default Muffler time....

OK so i have an 03 hemi qc 4x4. i want to put exhaust on it but we already have 3 inch exhaust right? has anybody just installed a muffler on instead of a whole catback? i want to change the tone of my truck and want to go magnaflow. any help would be highly appreciated. i just dont want to spend 600 when i can just swap out the muffler and get that same tone.

I think a couple of more has done a muffler only swap.
Piping after the Y is around 2.75" so you can round up the inlet diameter to 3" in your search for a muffler.

Also i would consider upgrading the stock Y to a less restricting Y pipe. Magnaflow has a good aftermarket Y (2.5"/3")

It all depends on how the rest of your exhaust system is holding up. If it is still solid I'm sure a muffler shop could just switch out mufflers, might have to add a little pipe to make up for muffler length.

How could a Y pipe not pass smog testing? I just don't see how it could. If anything I would tell them the old one rusted apart and that's the new one that was put in.

California has some very strict rules and darn near every mod that you make to a vehicle must have a C.A.R.B. cert # on it.

Avoid the headache and have a muffler shop do it. If you do it yourself and it fails you'll have to bring it to a shop for repair anyways. It shouldn't cost much to swap out a muffler, espically if you keep the rest of the system the way it is now. New Jersey emission laws are pretty strict too, but not as bad as Cali, my truck was done at a shop for 300 plus the 70 I paid for the muffler online. I completely changed the exhaust cat back, my extension pipe between cat and muffler was rusted out. An exhaust shop is way cheaper then a system but not as good because of the way they bend the pipes.

I don't no if u have to be below a certain noise level out there (I'm in Florida n we ain't got emissions). But I just got my exhaust done for 175 I put in a y pipe bout 6 inches behind the last o2 sensor n ran strait pipe out in front of the rear passenger tire with 2 Chrome tips, that was parts n labor n it sounds better then any magnaflow or flowmaster iv heard. But ya anything behind the cat don't have to do wit emissions just sound
