RE: Got smoked by a SS pickup
FYI, Back in 2001 when the SS was a prototype, they had the motor supercharged with the AWD setup. I have pics on my home computer i'll post later (I'm at work now). It was a total sleeper. My uncle works at the Milford Proving Grounds, and brought it home. The funny thing was that I saw it earlier the same day and thought "Hahaha, what a dumb looking truck, with a non-functional hood..." then later that day he brought it over and gave my bro and I a ride in it. So obviously when the truck went into production without the supercharger, I was a little bummed. Who's knows, had they used the supercharger, I might have bought a Chevy, hahaha.

RE: Got smoked by a SS pickup
come on down my way. there are guys with 4x4 diesels 6" lift and 37's that will eat a corvette, SRT-10, viper, lambo. . .yes, I said a lambroguini(sp?)
I was watching a 800+hp diesel dragster on the dyno last weekend and all I have to say is HOLY CRAP!!! his personal daily driver truck dyno's at 550hp and thats at the rear wheels.
if he wants a real competition I have a chain in the bed of my truck, I'll hook bumpers and then we'll see who has the juice

"GM wouldn't put an engine together with a drivetrain that would break with 20 more lb-ft. "
I beg to differ, my LS1 camaro came from the factory with a stock 325hp motor and the 460LE transmission(which I also believe is in the SS) wasn't designed to support
more than 260. Under WOT it was only a matter of time until it went boom. Unless the Chevy SS is packing a manual or some seriously upgraded internals it will quickly fry its tranny running like that also. In any other regard all the gen III blocks operate similarly. Drop in a custoom ground cam, a corvette top end, and reprogram the PCU and it could be pushing well over 400hp before you know it. But for the price of the truck and the upgrades, you could buy last years vette and still come out faster. Trucks just weren't meant to race. My .02
