Is that the Hemi or a 4.7? Does it have enough oil? (sorry, had to ask)

I don't know what it sounds like, but perhaps a broken valve spring?

I purchased this from a friend and intended putting a new motor and transmission in as the shop it was being stored at said it had a horrible noise coming from the lower end however, I do not believe this noise is coming from the lower end nor do I think the engine is shot, however it does have 279,000 miles on it.

The transmission I did a filter and fluid change and believe that one of the filters was not seated correctly as it had just recently been changed at that same shop, their was no metal on the magnet and after the fluid and filter change it does not seem to slip.

I dont mind changing the engine and/or tranny as I know it will be needed sooner or later however would like to get the most out of the existing engine and tranny, and this engine noise is bothering me and I do not want it to get worse.

At this point I am thinking of just changing the lash adjusters but wasnt sure if this is the problem.

Lash adjusters?
And yeah a top end rebulid would more than likely get you going with no noise

I was just reading another thread where someone had a similar noise and they changed the lash adjusters and some of the timing belt parts - tensioner etc. and it stopped the noise. I dont want to replace more than needed, I was wondering if anyone on here might be able to diagnose this noise. Just by listening. It definitely seems to be coming from the passenger side.

If you think that its coming from both sides assume sludge, and along with that a top end rebuild.

Im assuming these are also reffered to as rockers?/
