Hi all, Im looking at added a cold air intake and new flowmaster or magnaflo. Im not sure which to do first? I found a kn cold air intake for 219.99. Its Model 57-1533. The local muffler shop will install dual exhaust with flowmaster for 225.00 It would be from just before the cat. So it would be the pipe muffler and tip. Which will get me better performance and gas mileage if any? It might be a few months before I get the other one done. When I do exhaust, what brand should I go with? With the cold air intake, should I stick with KN, Or is there another brand I should stick with? Thanks all for your advise.

 

Get both. Have the shop do the exhaust (except use the Magnaflow instead of FlowMaster). Then make your own intake with a K&N filter (Check ewing's thread). Making your own intake costs about 50-60 bucks and you'll get the same performance as the 220 K&N system

 

IF I make the intake, will it be CA legal?

 

I spent $170 on making my own intake out of 3" aluminum tubing. I piped mine to the big open space up their in the bumper. Under the radiator. I can also move the intake to the top just next to the wiper fluid if I think I might be going through some large puddles or if it might rain.

 

It probably won't be CA legal...

 

If i remember correctly there is no CAI legal in CA.I haven't lived there in about 10 years but when i was there they were highly illegal.everytime i have gotten pulled over they opened the hood and checked to see if all the emmisions stuff was there and legal.that went for any CAI homemade or store bought

For the exhaust, i'd go with either a magnaflow or borla, i like the sound of those better. Although depending where you are in CA if you don't have too much snow, flowmaster would be ok, magnas and borlas flow better though. Honestly, if they are fabbing back from the cats for you, replacing the stock y and getting a new muffler for 225, that's a great price. Catback systems bought by themselves run 500-700 bucks easy. I would probably do that first.
