Adding Fog lights to 08 1500
#21
So this might be a silly/stupid question but i purchased and installed oem fog lights, harness, bezel, but no fog light switch yet. I was just curious is there any way to tap the fog light harness in to the headlamp wiring harness to get them to come on when both low and high beams are on or either low or high? Thanks in advance.
These are computer controlled circuits, no more mechanical relays. TIPM's are very expensive. When they detect excessive current draw so many times in a row(256x's), the programming shuts down that circuit forever and you need a new TIPM installed and programmed/configured. $6-900 at dealer. Not something you can do yourself.
Do a search on Tipm if you dont know what they are.
You need to have Dealer activate foglight function or it'll never work doing it the proper way.

Sounds like im just gonna do it the right way and get the pcm flashed only because i dont want extra switches that dont belong or look out of place. Thanks for your input on that. Had i not known that i would have tried it and been out a lot more then i could have been. Once again thanks for saving my butt. lol

You can do what you are saying, but you cannot wire it up with factory parts. You would need a seperate switch and relay to do what you want. It's electrically challenging but could be done. But to just go tapping into wires is NOT a smart idea in these 2006+ trucks.

This is great info. Many people do not realize about the circuit shutting down due to the excessive draw.

Got a quick question about getting my computer flashed. I called a dealership and they told me that there's a chance that when they flash it it might not work. I installed all oem parts ie: switch, harness, bulbs, etc. I have an 07 Dodge Ram ST 4.7. Anyone that knows anything for sure please let me know as i don't want to pay labor for nothing. Thanks.
