Adding Fog lights to 08 1500
I want to ad fog lights to my 08 Ram 1500.
I have the driver's side connector right behind where the fog light installs.
(same as the second pic here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...amps-pics.html )
(I will use that only to trigger a relay, the power to the lights will come from a fused direct feed from the battery.)
I also have an unused blue rectangular female 6 pin connector (with 5 pins installed.) right behind my light switch in the dash. My light switch doesn't have the fog indicator or evident push on push off fog light function like the one in my (work) 2009 Dakota. There is only one connector on it, and it appears to have 7-9 small wires.)
SO:
Can I get a factory replacement switch assembly with the fog function, install it (and find that it takes the blue connector) and have the dealer enable the option with their StarScan tool?
Is the blue connector for the fog lights?
Does the factory wiring for the fogs monitor their current to detect burned out bulbs such that I'll have to add resistors to the circuit to fool the computer?
(I'll add a picture of the blue connector if I must, however I'm sure the neighborhood children's vocabulary will be adversely impacted in the process.)

Well, to trigger the stock fog lights, you just press in your light selector, left of steering wheel. Im assuming its still there even though you dont have the lights. If you just want stock lights that fit in there, Id suggest getting stock wiring harness for the lights, and getting OEM fogs, or cheap OEM look alikes.
As for the current detection, Im pretty sure there isnt any, Ive broken plenty of fog lights in the past 4 years, and not once did a warning come up. But i did have a code pop up for unplugging the fog light wiring from the main line.

I know exactly what plug under the dash youre talking about and i was wondering the same thing. I have an 07 ST that didnt come factory with fog lights and wanted to do the same thing oem style everything. called the dealer and they said 06 or 07 and up you have to get the computer flashed to get them activated for a wopping $115. As for the blue plug and the one thats already plugged into your non fog light switch i guess you would install everything and try both out. if neither work when you go to the dealer to get the computer flashed im sure they will know.
I have an 07 regular cab SXT that didn't come with factor fog lights, when I look to see what the difference is on my 08 SLT the light selector was different. It didn't have the fog light push selection
if you have the TIPM system (usually 2006+ from what I understand?) will require a reprogramming to let the truck know that there are now fog lights on the vehicle.
Your better bet (if you want to that is) is to wire them a relay in which the 85 Pin is hooked up to the low beam circuit so that it will turn the fogs on whenever you have the low beams on.
Now if you want to wire them as per most state laws you should do what is done in this diagram:

I got a foglight kit from ebay with lights, bezels, factory switch, and plug-n-play wiring for $125 shipped.. Took about 30-40 min. to install and adjust on my 2006 SLT QC.
I believe this is the part # for the kit MP-82209047

Did they turn right on or did you have to get them programmed? I think i seen someone say some 06's dont need to be programmed but mine being an 07 im pretty sure i have the TIPM system.

2006 and up have a TIPM that in most cases will have to be flashed for aftermarket fogs.
Zoom has an SLT that comes w/fogs standard but for some reason he didn't have them. His TIPM was already programmed for them and they worked.

I have an 08 ram 1500. Installed the factory fog light kit. The plug is under the bumper of the truck. The factory kit comes with the new light switch as well.
You will have to go to the dealer to get them turned on due to the canbus electrical system. My dealer did for free while I had the truck in for service. The dealer selected the export setting for the fog lights. This allows the fogs to stay on with the high beams on as well. I like the clean factory look.
