2002 Ram Quad Cab, Passengers side.
Where is the cheapest place to buy the repair panel and is there a tutorial on fixing this kind of thing anywhere?

 

Me being a welder if it were me i would find a junk yard and take a portable torch and cut it out clean it up remove bad section and weld in the new panel. Or you might be able to just take it to a body shop and have them patch it up for you not sure how much it will cost but at least that's a couple options.

 

that's why I will never by a vehicle from eastern canada. Redram2007's options are probably the only ones you have, that won't be an easy fix.

 

you can get a replacement rocker pane both from dodge or aftermarket.
cut and and install the new one. you will need a automotive grade calking (3m) from the floor board to the rocker. grind off any other rust and treat with acid..primer and paint.. automoive paint requires a hardener and is very sensitive to fish eyes and its not cheap though.anything without a hardner is crap..100%

This is good to know. Why would the caulking be needed (obviously to seal) and is that something that's there to begin with?

I haven't looked at it extensively yet so I don't know how it all pieces together down there but if a new panel was welded in then why the need for caulking?

If I came to you with this problem and provided the replacement panel what would this job cost roughly? (still trying to figure out what I'm looking at paying to fix this)

If it were my truck i believe i would buy that rocker panel clean up the old rocker panel as much as you can to save on labor and have a body shop do the install. Not sure what it would cost but im sure it wont be cheap. Also im not sure if you buying the panel yourself will hurt or help bc body shops im sure get discounts but that dont mean they will give it to you at there price. I would find a body shop and get an estimate before buying anything.

I checked rock auto......and no...that is just NOT going to happen lol.

pricey or not I will have it fixed by a professional, but cleaning it up is a good idea. something to do before taking it in.

sorry didn't mean to come off as an A$$, I'm not trying to put down eastern Canada. It's just that I have seen a few vehicles from eastern canada and all have had BAD rust problems. The amount of salt they use on your roads just destroys vehicles. Anyways, good luck with the fix.
