Yep that right there will not only fill the whole unit up with metal that takes a full day to scrub out, but will keep grinding in to the housing ( reverse side of carrier bearing cap) rendering it junk. Mine failed at around 40,000 (pathetic ). I made the tool for spanner and went with eaton tru trac. No complaints ( yet) . If I can do it anybody can ! I've got about 5,000 hard miles on it so far so good. I normally baby my stuff but when I've got to fix something makes me mad and for some odd reason ill beat the hell out of it to teach it a lesson. My tires r paying the price . Good luck . Stock LSD JUNK!

Can't go wrong with Eaton or Detroit rear differentials.... things are animals!

Those stupid retaining clips break all the time... I should probably have my diff opened up at my next major service to check it out....

Anyone know if Spicer or another mfr. makes a clutch pack with a clip that is stronger than the Mopar one? Just wonder if the stock carrier can be rebuilt with better clips/reliability.

no harm in calling each manufacturer and asking... but off the top of my head, I don't know of any.

I like the Auburn LSD I put in mine after the original retaining clips went at 78,000 miles.

Dana/Spicer is the manufacturer of the OEM LSD. I would not be surprised, that they would send you parts (for reasonable cost) if you called and told them what you were going to do. But for the cost of the rebuild, you would be better off getting a Detroit or Auburn (watch out, non-rebuildable).

Hope this helps.

I have heard that the Yukon Dura-Grip is comparable to a Detroit but that is in extra heavy vehicle axles (Rockwell 2.5 Ton, 14-bolt, Dana 60HD). This info for the Yukon, I found on Steel Soldiers and the guys over there have only good things to say for the Dura-Grip and Grizzly Locker

It is cheaper, but only time will tell if it holds up as well as the "tried and proven" Detroit.

I did some research and one of the positive things i read about the dura grip is that it can be rebuilt.
