Check your power steering pump fluid level.. sometimes when it gets low it will whine.

thats your crankshaft pulley, but on my old 5.9L it sounded like i also had a whining noise coming from the same location. turns out i had lost half the ball bearings in my idler pulley. $30 to replace and that was that. i was surprised the pulley didnt kick the whole belt off and overheat my engine, guess i got lucky.

the idler pulley is usually the first one to go... but yes that is the crankshaft pulley...I highly doubt that is what is whining.

At about 59K, the bearing on the alternator went after I washed the engine without covering it.

Agree Idler pulley or alt bearing. I had an 04 alt bearing whined the whole time I owned it. Traded it in at 132k still whining. just tell your friends its a super charger. LOL

my idler went after i sprayed it with some penetrating oil. was full of dirt from mudding.

OP, if you're still here, have you solved your problem yet? if not, pull off your belt and spin all of your free-spinning pulleys. idler, tensioner, alt, a/c, power steering? anyway, spin all the pulleys that can spin, and if it doesnt feel right, pull it off and check the bearings.
