Default Any window tint experts on here, I need help removing old nasty masking tape

I went duning over the weekend for 5 days and they always seem to give you the crappiest tape to stick your pass on with. Anywho , I removed it when I got home and about half of the glue stayed on my tint along with some tape still. I tried goof off and it didn't work. What could I use to help remove it, my windshield is tinted so I don't wanna harm my tint what so ever!!!!

I can't promise you it will work for you, but it worked for me a few times....

Go to a Medical Supply store, or even some Sports stores (ones that sell Physical Trainer Supplies) and purchase tape remover.

It varies by name, so if you have to ask for it you can describe it as a liquid that you use to remove the tape when you need to tape up your ankle.

Stuff works pretty well and shouldn't (Can't Promise) mess up your tint.

Works best if you let is soak into the tape residue then you can usually pick at it until it comes off completely, I would say use a razor blade but you might risk messing up your tint...

Hope that helps.

yeah well then my only other suggestion is a plastic straight edge with rounded corners...

Kinda like the plastic panel removing tools... that might help.

Man, I used to be a tinter, so I would definitely say no scrapers of any kind! I'm surprised the goof off didn't work.

If its just the glue left, that should have taken it off. If you're desperate, get some straight ammonia, and spray it on the glue, cover it with some plastic wrap for a few minutes... (seriously). That should soften it up as long as the actual tape is mostly gone and its just adhesive.

It's not good for your tint, and I won't promise that it wont wreck it, but if Goo Gone didn't do it, your choices are getting slim.

I just don't want my tint to turn purple or some ****. I just thought maybe if I heat it up with a blow dryer it might kinda "melt" or loosen up then shoot some goof off?!

Ammonia will ruin your window tint. You should never use any type of glass cleaner with ammonia on window tint.

You could try to mix vinegar with some warm water (prolly mix about 2 parts vinegar to 8 parts water) spray onto a paper towel or clean rag and try to wipe it off.

You could also buy a "plastic scraper" or a window tint squeegee (these are used when applying the tint...should be on the shelf near the window tint film) from the auto parts store. Make a mix of water and johnsons baby shampoo. Put this in a spray bottle and liberally spay it on the window. While the window is soaked with the solution of baby shampoo at water use the plastic scraper to try to get the tape residue off. (Just make sure the window stays soaked while you are doing this...also do not press to hard with the scraper)

If neither of these work you may just have to remove the tint and re-do it

I used my sisters blow dryer and heated the **** out of it haha and with a rough terry cloth and goo gone and a crap load of elbow grease it came off and can't even tell it was ever there! Next time I know to pack my own painters tape that's easy to come off lol thanks for all the help
