Default !!! My new ride !!! Couple Of Questions

Whats up guys!

I have been off and on the forum over the years since I got my Dodge 3 years ago.Well I just sold that 1999 Dodge ram 1500 5.2 with 250,000 miles on it. I just got a 05 Dodge ram 1500 5.7 Hemi with 70,000 miles.

Its like day and night compared to my old dodge and I am very pleased....Anyways I have a couple of questions about it.

Just FYI, this does have a aftermarket cam in it. I don't know which one but it just sounds like a dragster

1. First gear does not shift till about 2,300 rpms. Is this normal? Seems rather high when I am not even getting on it.

2. Sometimes when I stop it will drop to 500 rpm and jump up when I stop to about 750rpm. Normal?

3. Do you think maybe it has been programmed to different settings?

I have an '05, I will check on the shifting out of first gear in a bit, but I think it is well before 2300 unless I'm still accelerating.

I've never noticed my idle drop.

The superchips is worth it as it allows you adjust shift points and idle plus many other features. Google superchips.

Sounds like you've got a custom tune in there to accommodate for the Cam and w/e else has been done... If I was you I would be trying to find the previous owner and see if he can help... or start contacting shops near you that do custom tunes on trucks.. they might have done yours and might be able to dig up a build sheet or some kind of info on it...

Also sounds like you have a high stall Torque Converter.. so I am guessing that it prolly has some other transmission and possibly motor work done to it...

Good Luck Man, Looks Like a great truck

If it DOES have a custom tune on it any kind of programmer could really screw it up...

Maybe your A/C is kicking on and causing it to jump up in RPM's. I'm not sure if Dodge's do that but that could be a reason I guess.

I just had to replace my U-Joints a couple months ago when I got my new truck. They would squeak when I first start accelerating then it would stop once I got up to about 20-30 MPH. Best way to figure out is to have somebody listen while you slowly accelerate (2-3mph). It cost me about $33 bucks for two U-Joints then I took my drive shaft to a local mechanic who replaced them for another $20 because I was having trouble getting them apart.
