So the other day I decided to check out what my plugs looked like and when I pulled No. 1 I was suprised to see no node at all. It was completely flush and slightly pitted into the ceramic. I have 150,000 on my '04 which I purchased 3 years ago. I have no idea if the plugs have ever been changed. I am gussing no because the rear plug on the driver side needed some PB Blaster to get it out. Took me about an hour and a half to get everything done. Hopefully this will help my 12.6 MPG and bump it up to at least 13.5 to 14. I also recently dropped in a cold air intake so with the plugs and CA, I am expecting to see results. If anyone wants to comment please do so.

The time is about average. It usually takes 2-3 hours to change out the plugs on a 5.7L (don't know which engine you have). Hope you replaced with the stock plugs as that's what these engines seem to like. As for an MPG bump, I wouldn't expect to see much over .5.

Truck has a 4.7L in it. According to Advance Auto, it states that the Motorcraft plugs come from the factory, but I beleive that may be false as during my readings, the Champions seem to be the plug of chioce from the factory. I went with the Motorcraft's as they got good readings...

We will see over the next few weeks..I will keep you all posted.

Champions are stock. The number is in your owners manual.

I have run across a few Rams that when you don't use the champions (OEM) you may end up with a funny idle or a check engine light! Hopefully you will see 14, my buddy has an 06 Ram and after a good tuneup and a CA and cleaning the injection system he averages 15

As I keep reading I am amazed at how these engines are so finiky when it comes to the plugs. So based off lxman1 statement, the plugs that I pulled out were the OEM plugs from the factory. I had some what of a bad idle prior, but that was most likely caused by the plugs never being changed. I am anxious to see how everything goes. If these Motorcraft's don't do the job then I will change out for Champion's. I hope that's not the case though.

Tranny flush is next....

Do NOT trust AAP when it comes to that stuff. When I was changing my plugs I went there to get plugs first and the guy said my truck came with Iridiums from the factory. I told him he and his computer were wrong and took my business to Autozone where their info was correct and said the Champions were stock.

You should also consider the NGK plugs. I put the expensive E3 plugs before knowing much about these engines and had a rough idle following install. I did some searching and decided to go with the NGK V-Power plugs and they smoothed the idle out. As for mpg increase none noticed.

Ok, well I am into week one and I believe the Motorcraft plugs are doing just fine. mpg's seem to be up around .3-.5 according to the computer. I am going to do a manual check after my next fillup to be sure and get a better reading. As for the plugs themselves performance wise. I ahve not expeirenced any rough idling or anything of that nature. One thing I do still expeirence is a drop in idle for about .5-1 seconfd. This truck has done this since I purchased it 3 years ago. Has anyone come across this before with their truck? I have a 4.7L in it.

Thanks,
Matt
