For future reference:

If you have a 4x4, you'll need two sets of 4.56 gears (and don't go cheap on gears, cheap gears = noisy, crappy gears) and two master install kits (you'll need master kits, no minor or anything less than master kits), along with the limited slip unit (posi) itself.

Of course. Buy gears, buy LSD, take them to a shop and have them put them in. Bam. Done.

Are there any specific brand I should go with? I don't wanna buy some off brand and have the gears break my rear end makes a whining noise already.

I just had motive 4.56 front and rear, and eaton tru trac in rear installed last month for $2174 out the door. That eaton is the SHIZNIT! The gears have a very slight whine from 15mph to about 35mph. If I had any kind of exhaust system on her I would not be able to hear it at all. Everything on my truck is factory except for the gears.

it's been my long standing opinion that brands of rings and pinions aren't near as important as the quality of install.. the install is where you should $pay$ for effort..

there ought not be any whine.. zilch.. if'n I were you, I'd be dropping the cover and getting a look at the wear pattern..

That's what I keep reading. I also keep reading that people that get 4.56 or lower have some noise just because the inherit way the teeth are cut. So I don't know!???

yea drew. That's what I keep reading. "There shouldn't be any whine or noise!" I honestly don't know who to believe. When I called the shop to get a quote they told me 4.56 will make a slight whine and that 4.10 won't make any noise. They accually recomended 4.10's for that reason. The shop I had my install done at was Driveline Service of Pittsburgh, very reputable company, over 30 years in buisness. I got a 6 month warranty on install. I'm almost at 500miles for brake-in. I will drop the pan in a couple weeks and look at the pattern. So I have no choice but to believe the shop did it correctly. The one thing I looked up is there's thousands of people on google from different forums that have on set or another 4.56 that have whined for 10's of thousands of miles and they haven't had any problems. There are also a lot of "Self Appointed" professional mechanics on these sites that are full of bull****. (I'm not saying your one of them.) I'm just saying for now I will just have to take there word for it.

lots of things can make them whine.. it doesn't have to be the contact patch, but if you have a whine, you surely don't want it coming from the contact patch.. that's the bad whine to have..

there is no bad wine to have, just levels of good...

I'm of the opinion, just for what it's worth, that most shops will inform you that a little whine is no big deal- as a cyoa... and they do so because they realize it isn't only the contact patch that can make such a sound..

you've got the right notion... check 'em after break-in, and get a gander at the contact pattern.. it may be bearings marrying up that is causing your whine.. and that is expected.. it could be a pin was left a little long (it has to be shaved to install those things), and is making ever so slight contact.. it may be that oil is not infiltrating completely between some bearing faces that is causing it.. the list goes on.. if it's the contact patch, though, it will be obvious..
