Default 06 Ram Radio & overhead console ?

Hello,
In my new to me 06 Ram the radio (w/ changer) and the overhead console displays are very dim and almost impossible to see during the day. At night with the lights on you can see that they work properly with the dimmer swtch, and then go to a bright mode if the dimmer is in the position past full bright. However they are dimmer than the instrument panel lights and you just can't see them during the day. If you have lights on in daytime you can see the mileage on the instrument panel.

Also the buttons for the rear window and other two switches to the right do not light up..... is that a bulb out? and can it be changed?

Thanks for you help,

A

I took some pics to help clarify the problem:
The overhead lights off then lights on. Most of the time you can see this but even at the brightest it isn't as bright as instrument panel.

The radio as you can see, that with the lights off you can barely see it. With the lights on you can't see it at all. Since there is a very slight change I guess that it is trying to function but way too dimm.

Lastly the rear window and pass seat warmer buttons do no light up... how does one repair them, or is there a bulb to replace?

Regards,
A

My radio display is the same way. Nearly impossible to read during the day. That's just the way it is. As far as your light for your rear window, and, I assume your seat heater switches, the bulbs are led's that are integral to the switch, and cannot be replaced. I have multiples that have gone out, some are for the radio as well, and there's nothing that can be done, short of replacing the switches, and the entire head unit.

That is not the answer I'd like to hear.........!

But thanks for letting me know at least I won't waste a lot of time trying t figure it out.

Anyone ever take the switch apart and replace those LEDs?

Regards,
A

You may have a bad dimmer switch if you can't read the overhead and radio with the lights off. These two items should be full bright until the lights are turned on. The click on the dimmer in between bright and the dome light on is the position that keeps the speedo and odometer stay full bright with the lights on.

He already said his dimmer switch was functioning properly. The dimmer controls all lights, not just the dash. I have the same year and factory radio, and mine is exactly as he describes.

The "click" above full bright on the dimmer, should enhance your odometer, fog light indicator, radio, and overhead console. As long as this happens, your dimmer switch is fine.

Thanks for that info about the display..... It is unfortunate to hear that that's the way it is...... still doesn't make it right! They ought to have a fix for it. My 02 Ram's is just like the instrument display in brightness.
