Default towing

i have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 quad cab with the 20" wheels and 3.92 gears, well i was asked to tow a 14' box trailer this weekend, im asuming fully loaded, (will get trailer weight and wat not later today) and my truck does not have the big hitch, it has som sort of hiddin hitch looking thing, to were it has the bar but no slot for the reciever, just a hole just for the ball, should i be fine with just that?

thanks

4.7Ram,

Is it an after market hitch or was it equipped with the vehicle from factory? There are 3 different types of hitches a fixed drawbar, removable drawbar and a pintle hitch.

Check out the link I've included, there is a lot of information available there.

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.

No, it's removable draw bar. The 3rd gen Rams had a "hidden hitch" from the factory when the tow package was ordered. The big difference between the two is that the tow package had a 7 pin wire harness plugged into the bumper (unless it got knocked out, seen that before. lol) and the non-tow package trucks had a 4 pin stuck up on the frame behind the bumper.

The "slot" for the 7 pin? As in the hole in the bumper for it? They all have that. It oughta be fine as you've got 3.92 gears, the only thing is you might not have an extra trans cooler. But I dunno about that as I don't have experience with the newer 3rd gens. It's all gonna depend on weight, either way.

That's about the maximum for the 4.7 anyway. lol I think 5k is quite a bit of stuff if you're not hauling vehicles.
