yep those are MOPAR steps... but at the same time those instructions make total sense to me. Once you have put the bolt thru the bracket hole and then thread the "rectangular plate/nut" onto the end of the bolt, you put the rectangle into the body hole and then as you start to turn it. I would suggest pulling on it while turning so that the edges of the rectangle will eventually "bite" into the metal and then you will be able to tighten it up. One thing that would probly help would be to tighten each rectangle all the way up/down its matching bolt off the truck first to help clear the threads of any paint or burrs so they might turn more freely. Using a screwdriver might help if you could get it in there to help keep it from spinning around and around... but other than that I dont see much else you can do.

Hey dont feel bad, I have installed other MOPAR accessories that had far worse instructions with even worse methods of installation. Some of the mid 90's Rams had steps that required you to drill a hole through the pinchweld below the door area for one end of the steps bracketry. It was apparent to me at the time that this would only lead to premature rusting along with only leaving about 1/8 inch of metal before the bolt could simply break thru. But that was the best that some brilliant Chrysler employee could come up with then.

Thanks very much for all your help... I see now that i actually understood the instructions just fine - i just couldn't beleive (and still can't really) that is how they are supposed to be fitted!! I've fitted plenty of accessories to my various cars in the past but never come up against anything as shoddy as this when using genuine parts... i could understand if it was a cheap aftermarket part but not when u buy from the manufacturer.. I really am appalled and this has seriously put me off Dodge and Chrysler for the future. I'm from the UK, have been in US since May, i don't think that anyone back home would accept a design as bad as this back home...

Was gonna have another stab at fitting em last weekend but was far, far too hungover... especially on Saturday

Will hopefully have a go this coming weekend... unless of course the beer starts calling again

Cheers,
Richard.
