Exclamation 2007 Dodge Ram 1500-EVAP Engine Codes

+++++++++ sorry if this thread needs to be moved to a different section ++++++++++ I just read the sticky!

Hello,
I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. I am getting engine codes P0455, P0457 and P0456 with the GASCAP displaying on my dash. I was able to replace the gascap, cycle power, and I still have the codes. I was able to locate the evap canister near the gas tank and I dont see anything wrong with the hoses. The hoses that I can see look ok under the hood.

Ive watched every single video on youtube on this issues with no luck so far. ( haven't tried the cigar trick yet )

Im not sure where to locate the purge solenoid.. I cant seem to find a good diagram on the net where to locate parts on my truck.

Im willing to look further into this with the right advice!

Thank you,
Tony

Thank you master tech for your reply.

I checked the manufactures date on the drivers side door and found that it was manufactured in 6/12, MDH061222. I fit the bill for this bulletin.

Questions:
  • My truck is not under warranty. Would any of this be covered as a recall? Im not sure how these bulletins work.
  • Where is the purge valve solenoid on my truck? Ive seen people in videos verify these lines and also use one of these lines to do a DIY smoke test. I was able to find a shop to do this for $50 bucks.. not sure if im ready to fork over the $$$ yet.
  • I have a tool that can give me engine codes but this (Scan Tool StarSCAN®) sounds a little bit more advanced. Is this something AutoZone my have to use for free?
Any visual aids on a 2007 Dodge Ram would GREATLY be appreciated. Pointing out where the key components of the EVAP system. I will later post a video of all my findings to help support the forum.

Thank you everyone for your help in this matter.
Tony

No its not a recall. TSB's are only just information for the techs that are having the same problem as anyone would have.

Ok, Thanks for the reply.

If someone could help with some diagrams/pictures of a 2007 Dodge Ram that would be great. Maybe some pointers with the smoke test. I plan on getting my hands dirty this weekend and would like to have all info I need soon.

Thanks

I called my local dealership and told them that there was a TSB on my truck. He told me he would take a look at it for free. The appointment is at 9:00 am today. Ill let you know what he finds.

Turned out it was a hose above the gas tank that was chewed up by my neighborhood squirrel. I now have another reason to hunt those darn things.

Two things to note about testing the EVAP system on this truck
  • In order to get to the tank you need to remove the drive shaft. The gas tank needs to shift over to the middle before it can be dropped down. You can suspend the tank with some bungee cord (make sure the tank is near empty)
  • If you want to do a smoke test you can do it with the hose that is going into the charcoal canister.

Let me know when the BBQ will be. Don't use bungee cords. If anything use tow straps and yes on a next to empty tank. I normally use a bench and two 4x4 blocks and lower the vehicle down to the bench. Then remove the tank straps, and then raise the vehicle with gas tank still on the bench.
