Gear Replacement
It doesn't sound right. In your first statement, the rear end was locked up. Bearings don't cause the rear end to lock up. But if the pinion nut had loosen up and the pinion dropped down into the housing, then that would lock up the rear end. Because the pinion gear is jam into the ring gear. Do you know what the tech set the backlash at? From what you are writing. The tech should stay working on GM vehicle and not on dodge, because the tech may not have the correct tools to overhaul a rear differential. I would replace the ring and pinion gear set and set the pinion depth and replace the pinion bearings, crush sleeve, front pinion seal and a new pinion nut. Unless you want to hear the whining sound.
Thanks for the reply....wow its getting expensive.....I also have the p700 and have to rebuild the transmission. ...I must be really loyal to ram's....love them but they are full of troubles lol
