Cranks but won't turn over
I've got an 03 1500 5.7 hemi, I got in it the other day started it and was driving down the road I got to about 45 And it started shaking slowed down and it stopped sped back up same thing, pulled over to check tires and it died, now it'll crank but not turn over unless I give it gas but as soon as I take my foot off it dies. Any ideas
cranks and turning over is the same term.
it cranks but will not Start.
it Does start, but dies as soon as you remove your foot from the gas petal. correct!
dirty throttle body . and possible plugged port at the throttle blade in the throttle body. remove throttle body, and use throttle body Cleaner. reassemble.

04 1500 3.7ltr. I have the same problem. Started right up this morning in -32* weather, drove it for over an hour. Stopped at a bank, turned it off, came back out and it wouldnt start. It shows over a quarter tank but I added about 2 gal of fresh from the pump gas and hit it with starter fluid at the air filter throat. The starter fluid is lighting it but it dies immediately, so there is a spark.
Chuck, appreciate the advice and I will try it but I'm having a hard time understanding how it went from running perfectly fine to absolute dead in the ten mins it was shut off. Wouldn't there be some sort of symptoms prior to it not starting? Hard start, sluggishness, died while running, etc? I agree its a fuel problem but could it also be electrical? I appreciate your input 100% Im just trying pick your brain a little more in case there are other tools I should be bringing to the party since the truck is in a business's parking lot instead of 10 feet from my garage.
Thanks for any further suggestions you might have,
Bill

The OP said his truck will fire and run only if the pedal is pushed. You say yours won't start at all. In your case, I would lean toward a bad fuel pump. Try giving the gas tank a rap with a 2x4. That may get it going enough to get you home. But yes, a fuel pump doesn't usually die a slow death, it goes instantly. That would explain why it was running fine and then dead.
Same symptom as mine - it had a broken valve spring (#6 exhaust). Fortunately, it quit while idling, so the valve survived.

Well bill, you are having a hard time understanding, because Chucks advise was toward the original poster's problem, not yours.

I agree with mike...
Once I knew about how far i Could push my gas tank I would let it run low forever and a day.
Then wala one day I couldent get it to start.
Usualy before U fully hit your tipstart you can hear the fuel pump come on it makes kinda of a
"heueueuemmmmm sound
if you dont hear that try hitting the fuel rail to see if it sprays while somone else turns the key.
Theres a little cap on the passenger side of the fuel rail take it off and its a valve stem press in at the same time your keys being turned. DOnt look directly at it or atleast stand at an angle if it is working you will get about 3 foot of spray.
Fuel pump from local autostore around 120
fuel pump around salvage 60
IF its your fuel pump you will have to lift your bed or drop your gas tank, ill keep my fingers crossed that thats not your situation.
