I don't like the play in the video!
So you went with a standard crush collar? I thought I read you cut tubing yourself or something?? Maybe that was someone else because I went through and didnt see anything in this thread.
Anyways, you need to keep crushing the collar...by hand! I would not use an impact gun. Dont worry about how much torque it takes either. Once it starts to crush it gets VERY easy which is where the in.lbs comes into play.

If your using a solid sleeve, then I would measure end play and add almost that amount of spacer to the set-up.

I like to use a breaker bar with a 4-5ft piece of pipe. The longer the better. Once it gets easy, shorten the bar. I know some Ford sleeves take ~350ft/lbs or so to get them to begin their crush.

Yeah, I only used the impact to get it close. Once the movement as minimal is when I started to try it by hand. I was worried I was going to damage the torque wrench although I just bought it and could take it back but I think I will get a solid breaker bar and use that. I was already adding a 3-3.5' pipe on my torque wrench...LOL

But to hold my pinion Im using a 36" demolition bar wedged between the flange/yoke bolts and the other end on the ground. I wouldnt mind having that Miller 6719A flange holder but the cheapest I could find it was on ebay for $70.

Time to go buy some more tools!

Yeah I was just reading back through the thread and Rought mentioned he had to put 300+ lbs of torque to get his just right. What torque wrench did ya end up getting?

All of my current tq wrenches maxed at 150 so I bought a new Kobalt from Lowes which maxed at 250. I didn't want to damage it earlier today so I stopped. That's how much pressure I was using. So tomorrow I'll pick up a long breaker bar and a heavier piece of pipe. I've got some thin wall pipe I won't trust with that amount of pressure.

Ok, I found my issue on why it wasnt tightening down anymore. Seems that red thread locking compound works really damn good.

All, seems my new impact gun rated at 800 ft lbs also works well. Seems i crushed my first crush sleeve a bit too much. Good thing i bought extras and pinion nuts.

My pinion bearing preload is close to 22 in lbs.

My backlash is around 0.0035 and the Srvc Man calls for 0.003

Im not messing with that for a 0.0005" of a difference

Tooth contact is next

Update, old gear had too much wear. Had to order new ones and decided to go down to 410s.

I will be started a new thread next week and linking it in here for others to follow. New Motive 4.10 gears and Motive master kit came in today. My new 12 ton shop press is here also. Now I just need the time to do it and since I have to do it all over again, I will go ahead and do a tool and material list, torque specs and step-by-step guide for you guys. Thats going to slow things down a lot but hopefully it will help you guys out

Stay tuned
