axle stub stuck! please help
So maybe someone can help me out. I'm replacing cv shafts and axles in the from of my 04 1500... The stubs into the diff are ground down so i bought new ones. I got down to it and I can't get them free from the gear. The snap rings won't budge. I tried a pry bar in the groove of the outer snap ring and it won't budge. I've read that you need to use a slide hammer with a 3 claw puller adapter but no such adapter exists in all the places I've searched. Any thoughts?

Got mine off with out pulling the cv's. this is on the driver side. After taking the wheel and brakes off and the wheel hub nut. I used 18mm 3/8 socket to 3/8 to 1/2 adapter to my breaker bar. just enough room to turn the bolt. then i pulled the stearing knuckle from the spindle so i could turn hub for easier access. I didn't take the bolts completely out do too the tight access. Beat the liven day lights out of the hub to get it to come off. Steel and Aluminum dont mix very well. Clean up the spindle and axle shaft and bolts. Then re installed new hub. Total time about 1 1/2 half. Hope this helps

So new issue. Got the case open. There's a roller that seperates the axles. It's designed to roll slide out of the assembly but there's a roll pin holding it in place! Usually it's a hex screw that I've seen on rear ends of old mopars.... So what do I do?

Apologies....... I've quoted you the way to disassemble a 91/4" front end and not a C205F which yours, from your description, seems you have.
In your diff, there's a pin which is hammered into place and "peened" on two alternate sides, to stop the cross pin coming out. A bit like the hex screw arrangement you mention holding the cross pin in place on the 91/4" diffs.
The 91'4" fronts roughly the same as the rears in theses trucks.
As for your issue. If the inner intermediate shaft is stuck in the diff so much, the only way to do this is to remove all the wheel, brakes and steering knuckle or at least get them up out of the way as much as possible by swinging them away and tieing them up. Then with a friend, use two crow bars between the stub axle and the housing as a pry, then get your friend with at least a 5lb hammer to wail on that sucker. All the time applying pressure with the two crow bar levers. The snap rings which sit in grooves on the shaft are sometimes pigs to get to release. Your bonus here is that they're very easy to push back in but make sure they're fully home and clipped into place, as you don't want issues in the future.
You'll need your truck up on a lift for access in the best case or, high up on axle stands making sure the trucks very secure. That way with everything removed such as the brakes, steering knuckle and hub etc, you can have a good clean whack with a big hammer at it.
I did a little research on another forum and this is the way to go on this as many people have had issues with removing these shafts.
Dodge do indeed have a specialist tool to help in the replacement of these shafts.....but your very unlikely to get one. Unless you know somebody in a dealership who would loan you it?
Hope this helps and even though you will have probably cursed and hit knuckles and generally had a crap time, when it's finished, you will have saved a lot of $'s and have the pleasure of knowing you've done it well.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Al.

Was having problems removing mine too. Tried a come-a-long, a sledge, a slide hammer and nothing seemed to work. Pulled the Diff cover and was going to pull clip from inside but clip is interior of the diff gear so no help (except I needed to change diff oil anyhow). Spoke to a buddy of mine who gave some very good info. First, take a grinder and make the groove deeper where the C-clip sat, on two sides for two claw puller. Second, make sure the claw is locked in good. Third, push on the handle of the slide hammer toward the differential, applying inward pressure. Fourth, while pushing, pull the slide hammer. Continue this action while turning the intermediate shaft a little after each hit.
I worked on the intermediate shaft for roughly four hours before calling my buddy. Had it out using his method within 5 minutes of getting the two claw puller attached. Hope this helps.
