Default taking off the emblems

Can you take off all of the emblems off of the tailgate without damaging paint. Or are they like the fords with the emblems drilled into the metal. ? Any help in this area is appreciated. Thanks Chris[:'(][X(][&:]

The badges are not drilled. I took mine off the tailgate with some string to cut the 3M tape and used bug and tar remover with a lot of rubbing. Do a search, there are quite a few threads on this topic.

Probably do this the same time you polish and wax your truck.

The fishing line will probably work. I would have some concern - if you really like your paint job - that there might be some abrasion of the string on the paint as you saw it back and forth to slice the badge mounting tape.

Another method that we've had pretty good luck with is using a heat gun. Heat the badge just enough to soften the adhesive on the badge mounting tape and then simply peel off the badge. We use WD-40 to remove the residue.

Pepboys sell adhesive/bumpersticker remover. It did the job fine. I think Auto Zone also carries it.

If you happen to cause any minor scratches to your pain, just use some really fine sandpaper and a buffer to get them out, this is good to do anyway, becase once you debadge the vehicle, you can still see where the emblems were in certain light, the sanding and buffing will eliminate this problem.

I'd use Meguair's Scratch-X well before wet sanding. Also I'd imagine paint fade will only be an issue on slightly older trucks that have spent a lot of time outdoors. Reds and Blue are typically the first to fade.

I used the 3M pinstripe removing wheel in an electric drill. Worked very well and I was done with the entire truck in under a half hour or so.
