What in the world IS THIS??
We've already said it's for EGR on vehicles so equipped. I also said there wasn't gonna be any vacuum there or for a hole that big you'd get at least a CEL (although it probably wouldn't even start). I knew blocking the hole would make no difference but figured you'd need to see it for yourself.
I got a text back from a friend who's a Mopar tech. He said no plug from the factory, absolutely no need for one. Is supposed to send me a link to a pic or diagram. He says either you're not running standard copper plugs OR broken valve spring...

Doubt it's a broken valve spring based on the associated symptoms I've read about. That sounds like a major job anyway, so I'll be ruling out ALL other possibilities before even thinking of the valve springs.
That's because it's not used on an '03...
I'd put either Champion or NGK coppers in, but I'm kinda thinking you're gonna pull them one is gonna be blacker than sh*t and that's gonna be the cylinder with a broke spring. I hope not, but it makes sense. Guys think if a spring breaks it means the head goes and the valve drops but a broken spring doesn't always result in a catastrophic failure - although it could happen at any time...
